Anyway despite being a fantastic free kick - its not the best I have seen. For pressure and what was riding on it - Beckham's agaist Greece was outstanding - but my favourite was Cantona's against Arsenal

You can't control the flight of a ball that's prone to wobbling in the air and diverting in 2 different directions. Which kind of devalues any skill you can claim to have over where it flies.

We were talking about that free kick in work the other day, apparently its something to do with where he puts the valve, or he hits the valve

Try telling that to the likes of Ronaldo, Becks, Elano, Ronaldhino, etc who spend hours on the training ground practising the art of free kick taking. Of course there is an element of luck but there is also a lot of hard work and skill that goes into a successful free kick

If you watch him place the ball, he pushes it into the turf therefore when his left foot is planted next to the ball in his run up the ball is made to 'pop up' and it in effect becomes a half-volley allowing the quick up/down movement of the ball when struck.

Edit: Oh and he probably takes about 30 free kicks a day after training every day. No substitute for practice and hard work.
