Ah....my Charlie boy. So many good memories of him at Arsenal. Best was his testimonial when we played against celtic - 2-2 draw. All on the pitch at Highbury at the end hugging and swapping scarfs, and lots of stripping of tops going on too! Great memory looking around at Highbury from the pitch - one and only time I got on it! All lit up.
Charlie was also one of the subjects for my ART GCSE final exams - lots of drawings of him in his Celtic clobber! No idea why I picked him thinking back - I got an E for my final grade. My only grade below a C! 
And as for Ian Rush - he was a big baddie when I was growing up - I hated him. Boo!

Wasn't the 2-2 actually Paul Davis's testimonial? But Nicholas was back playing for Sellick that night? Or was there another 2-2? I was seeing a Jock bird at the time (as in, a bird who actually lived in Scotland - we had a long distance thang going on) and she'd driven down that afternoon to go to the game. Oh, and to see me, natch.

You are indeed right my dear! My error. It was Paul's testomonial - Charlie scored for Celtic, and IF I remember correctly Celtic took the lead, then we brought it level, then we took the lead, and then celtic brought it level? Sure Dixon scored, but don't remember who else. Dunno - but was quite a charged game and amazing atmosphere. I flew back early from a holiday just for that game. Was only 14 at the time......well worth it to get on the pitch.

And Paul Davis is a lovely bloke. Always has been. He does a lot of work for my son's team, Whetstone Wanderers. He's about every week no attitude at all.
Met him loads as a kid and he always would stop and chat to me and he's no different now.

Can't remember much about the game bar Wydoczyk (spelling?) scoring an absolute howitzer of a free kick from about ninety miles away.
And Celtic fans were kept in at the end to hear a major announcement ...

Don't remember that. Yes, you're right about the other Celtic scorer - think maybe Smith scored Arsenal's other? My good god i've clocked up some serious years in football. Scary.

Never made this game, was in Blackpool with a few mates. We debated getting the train down for it but went pub instead. Went to Sammy Nelson's and David O'Leary's testimonial games, think we were the oppo for Tony Adams aswell.
I was at that an all. Cannae remember anything except for Big Shuggy's free kick cos we were right behind the goal.
Oh, and it was never a penalty
Back on subject, Rush was fookin great, just finished reading Dalglish's autobiog - now that was a strike partnership!

I went to the Adams game. 1-1. It was just before the World Cup in Japan though, so Arsenal had a shit team out. I just wanted to see Hartson (ex-Luton) but he wasn't there either for Celtic - er, not that Wales had qualified for Japan, natch.
Celtic played Sperz around then too, didn't they? Another 1-1 draw.
Went to the O'Leary testimonial too. That was a 4-4 draw with Yernited, wasn't it, with Les Sealey (RIP) in goal and clowning around the entire game. Fcuk me, that was years ago. They still had terracing then.

Whose jaw did he break around 87 when he lamped that Sheff Wed lad? Who was the other lad,again? Was it a Sheff Wed player? Davis got something like a 9 month ban out of it.
Rushy seemed to score a hatrick every week. Brian Moore was forever saying "And Rush puts it away with a minimum of fuss"

Al - David O'Leary had two testimonials. One in 86 (i think) against Celtic and they whacked us 2-0. You're on about his second testimonial..............against United - I think it was 4-4 and the United defence all dropped like flies to allow him to score? May be wrong - just phoned my brother to check and all he could say was "you were the one at the game!" Damn it. Always wondered how O'Leary turned out to be such a dick really. He hates Arsenal which i've never understood given most his life was spent there. Guess it's like a relationship, although he had goods years there. :edit: and he's a fucking Tory!
Boaty - Glenn Cockerill of Southampton. It was 9 games and not one of the officials had seen it so was the first time 'video/ tv' evidence was ever used in such a case. Hard to believe really if you met the guy.

It was Arsenal v Celtic for O'Leary's testimonial Al. Tuesday 5th August 1986, Celtic won 2-0. Alan 'Rambo' McInally and Mo 'Judas c*nt' Johnston scored for us. Edit - Just seen Em's post, didn't know he had 2 games. Greedy Tory c*nt!
