Johnny, I'm sure you're not one of them yourself, but this needs saying one last time. Whoever thinks that, had Lampard's equalizer been given, then England would have had a chance of beating the Germans, should ask themselves why all four of Germany's goals came down England's left side. (Where, of course, Gerrard was straying into the centre of midfield, trying to impose himself on the game.) England need a manager with the conviction to say that Lampard and Gerrard cannot play together in the same team at international level.

And the Dutch can have no complaints themselves - Arjen Robben's clear goalscoring one-on-one half-way through the second half was their opportunity to win, and he blew it.

England were shit, aye

Paul the octupus gets his 7 (8?) arms on the world cup trophy

**"**Dutch football legend Johan Cruyff has launched a scathing attack on Netherlands' display in the World Cup final, deriding it as "anti-football". The Dutch received nine yellow cards, and a red card for Johnny Heitinga, as they lost 1-0 to Spain in South Africa. "Sadly, they played very dirty," Cruyff told Spanish newspaper El Periodico. "This ugly, vulgar, hard, hermetic, hardly eye-catching, hardly football style... If with this they got satisfaction, fine, but they lost." "

Well said Cruyff:clap:

And finally, BBC's closing montage pissed all over ITV's (not hard to do)

Holland should have been down 2 to 3 men by the end of the game - stop complaining...

Van Bommel should have been sent off against Uruguay for trying to break an opponents leg.

For the first time I'm thinking Nigel Powers could be right

That game plan was a disgrace

'You can referee wrong, make a mistake, but what you cannot do is create your own sense of justice and, even worse, invent a very personal application of the rules.'

Johan Cruyff

You Brits are always very negative about the Dutch. Maybe it's because Chatham or whatever something in history. That's why it's not a good idea to have a British referee in a game with Holland. I hope Holland will not allow that in the future. We are better in football and in paintings, and you don't want to accept that. So childish!

Bollocks. If you really think you'd won it with 8 men on the pitch rather than 10, then you've been down the cafe too much. I suspect he was too pro-Dutch and too lenient to them. Quite how you can complain about him is beyond me; he saved you from a much bigger loss. If the Spanish had lost they would have every right to complain.

Allow what?

And how many World Cups have Holland won?

And I'll take a Constable or Turner over a Van Gogh.

So do that! If Webb is a MAN, he gave three Dutch players in the first minutes, when everybody is trying to find a way, the red card! Go ahead! But he is SNEAKY and gives two yellows at Heitinga for really nothing - look again! - and the last one in the last part of the game. After that he refused to give a corner, while the whole world saw the ball bend after hitting the human wall.

And that's what Johan Cruyff meant, when he said that a referee must not make his own rules.

I've wanted to see Holland win the world cup ever since the 1978 final when i was massively saddened to see them lose to Argentina.Had been a fan ever since.I remember watching them beat Argentina in the 1998 quarter final in a pub in Blackpool and jumping around the pub like a crazed dervish when Bergkamp hit that spectacular winner. Was overjoyed when they dumped Brazil out in this world cup. However, i will never be supporting them again after their disgraceful behaviour in the 2010 final.I suspect i'm not the only one who has distanced themselves from ever supporting Holland again.

Come on, you Brits never speak positive about us. Never. And we don't take it any longer. You will see. We are still waiting for the first good footbalmatch of the brits in a worldcup. And keep those crazy referees with you in the future.

And NZ were the only team not to lose a match.

Although WE didn't win any either.

Rubbish... I wanted you lot to win. Even put money on it.

Looking at the way your team played in the final, I'm glad i didn't collect. Your team were a disgrace to the game. Whining about it doesn't make it any better.

AS for England, we knew and acknowledged our failings after every match. And i think we have far more to complain about regarding referees, but we took it on the chin.

The reason why the Brits can't paint, is that they have mud in their eyes. Look at the game again, and you will see, if you DARE to admit it, that Holland played a fair game, and that the Spanish tend to fall very easily, and that your crazy referee, also with mud in his eyes, cannot see the difference between theatre and not-theatre. AND THATS THE TRUTH Look at the red card for Heitinga. Dare you to admit it, that this was a crazy action of your crazy referee? Dare you? Your referee is a disgrace for the sport, like Robben said. I'm very disappointed in the Brits. And a lot of the Dutch, I can tell you.

What a complete load of utter tosh... I didn't find anyone who wanted Spain to win before the match...

Watched it in full, then watched the fouls on highlights. It wasn't quite the 'Battle of Santiago', simply because Spain weren't responding in kind.

They seemed to be more interested in playing football. I didn't see any theatre apart from a Little Shop of Horrors.

runwild wrote:

Bollocks. Try looking at media reports from outside of Holland online. they tend to be unbiassed, and as i think i said, most of us neutrals were rooting for Holland, as we tend to support the underdog. Us Englishman think it's richly deserved that Holland draw level with us on World Cup trophies.

Alas, it was not to be. Total football is dead. They were instructed to behave like dirty thugs and bash their way to a trophy. Football won.

runwild wrote:

Yup, seemed fair enough to me. Only criticism for ref is that he should have sent off three Holland players before Heitinga, but wanted to keep the game flowing.

runwild wrote:

Well i imagine many fans of football around the world are disappointed with a lot of the Dutch right now.

I don't know...I kind of enjoyed that young Dutchman doing his best Eric Cantona....

highlight of the match, that was...

So you didn't see any theatre. You're blind.

Talking about a disgrace, go ahead destroying the world with BP-oil. I was a fan of GB, not anymore. It is Little Britain, very little.

I honestly can't believe you're coming out with all this crap, you're just as embarrassing as the team are!

People round my part of the country are all unanimous in their verdict: the team was very weak and played dirty. Webb made mistakes but most of them definitely in favour of the Dutch.

Spain deserved to win.end.of.

by the way, I've never supported the Dutch for various reasons and now everybody else has seen the light too, amen to that !

You better stop liking British music then. Are you only going to like the Venga Boys from now on

I would have loved the Netherlands to have won ,and the ex Gers man Giovanni van Bronckhorst to have lifted the cup. But sadly you were outclassed ,and were damn right dirty fookers - and got what you deserved.

Blame your manager , not the ref

'If a defensive player touches the ball before it goes over the baseline its a CORNER'

'In the match Spain versus The Netherlands, he sucked hard. The man was absolutely blind. The asshole gave 14 cards! Almost everyone in the team of "Oranje"! Howard "Motherfucker" Webb simply sucks!'

'Because at home he is now counting how much money Blatter had put into an enveloppe before the final match before handing it over to Howard Webb. Webb is probably enjoying a marvelous and luxery holiday at the momentbecause of FIFA payments...'

'If he would not whistle so much, we would have seen an totally different match. No card for Iniesta's bodycheck, no corner after the pass from Sneijder, no free kick after the foul from Puyol on Robben and we can go on...and on....and on... Lastly, did you see his face when he collected his medal? The MF bastard...'

It's a pity, your oil pollution and your Big Mouth - Strikes Again - concerning our footballteam is spoiling the good things like your music. Your reputation is not going upwards in this country.

NB Tynecastle, is that English for Tenenkasteel? Ik ken het niet.

Reaction of a Portugees player in The Guardian:

'I agree with the critics against Holland, but we are euphoric about the winners. Webb was ok during the match, but in the last 10 minutes lost consistency. how could he miss the corner against Spain? how can he send off Heitinga because of Iniesta's diving (webb fought so much to keep 22 players, and them give a red card in one of the most harmless "scenes" of the game) The De Wiel's yellow card was a diving as well.

i'm portuguese and i'm tired of play acting football (latin footballers play in swimming pools not in fields); that´s why for us referees are so important, they are there to be deceived, and help us win... england, please don't go that way'

So if Webb hadn't been in charge, you would have been down to 7 or 8 players after an hour by a stricter ref.

Seriously , you have no excuses. Your team was outclassed and the manager got his tactics wrong.

What is worse than 11 Englishmen on a football pitch? Answer: one English referee. :chainsaw:

He should have send off De Jong, isn't he? But he didn't. The sending off for Heitinga was a disgrace, isn't it? What do you want as a team, justice or crazy rules, depending on what the man likes to do? And you think this man is capable as a referee for the final of the Worldcup? Do you really think that?

More than a bit of Dutch Trolling here...

Nigel De Jong: "Maybe I am a little bit old school. But when you see how football used to be, there were worse fouls then and no-one even whistled. It is part of the game. Now Fifa come out with all those rules and the game is not exciting for the players anymore. Let football stay as football."

Arjen Robben: "When you play a World Cup Final you need also a world-class referee and - I have to be careful what I say - this was not the case for this match."

AD Sportwereld wrote: "The Dutch national team perished in the World Cup final - thanks largely to a chump of a referee."
