Hooking Peter into a chart bid

LOOKS like New Order bass player Peter Hook might have something of a surprise chart hit on his hands. After some intense sessions in the recording studio, Salford band Hanky Park are finally putting the wheels in motion to release their own version of the Joy Division anthem, Love Will Tear Us Apart. And, while band frontman James Davenport tells me Hook has given his blessing for the cover of his old band's tune, the bass legend might not have been fully aware of what part he was going to play in the single's release.

Good morning Peter, what's worth mentioning in Peter Hook's world today? Hours and hours of recording of the new NO album, while im also writing songs for my side-project with Mani and Andy Rourke (ex-Smiths), which will be called Freebass or Stalingrad, we havent decided yet... As for the rest, i lay at home with my wife, my 3 children, my 2 dogs and my cat, or i keep myself occupied with the basement, changing it all the time

The Peter Saville show comes home to Manchester

Returning to the city where his legendary career was launched, Peter Saville brings a three-decade retrospective of his work to Urbis in Manchester, opening on 23 January and running through 18 April 2004. Born in Manchester in 1955, Saville honed his skills at Manchester Polytechnic in the late 70’s alongside his friend, Malcolm Garrett. By their second year, Garrett had begun making his presence felt in the Manchester music scene by designing covers for legendary punk group, The Buzzcocks. This proved to be the catalyst that influenced Saville to start on a career path that would allow him to firmly establish himself as one of the luminaries of the Manchester scene.
