Joy Division Announce Massive 'Eternal' Live Recordings Box Set

Joy Division have announced 'Eternal (Live)', a comprehensive live recordings box set documenting performances from 1979 through their final show at High Hall in Birmingham in May 1980. The collection comprises 14 CDs of concert recordings sourced from fan cassettes, soundboard tapes, and broadcast recordings—all mastered at Abbey Road Studios—plus 2 DVDs with over 2.5 hours of performance footage, including a newly edited version of the Malcolm Whitehead documentary. The set includes previously unreleased performances from Hope & Anchor and Acklam Hall, alongside unheard material from The Factory, Lyceum, and Moonlight Club.

The packaging reflects the band's artistic legacy, overseen by designer Peter Saville alongside Warren Jackson, Howard Wakefield and Brett Wickens, with a cover photograph by Wolfgang Tillmans and liner notes from poet Simon Armitage. The DVDs also contain material from broadcast television appearances and the band's final touring shows, documenting Joy Division's live repertoire in the final year before Ian Curtis's death.
