Anyone like what they are doing?

I knew Going Under, but since a few days, the song My Immortal is playing a lot on the radio over here, and I must say, that's a pretty good song!

They have been nominated for 5 grammies, I guess that's because they might be worth nothing (though it garantees nothing, as far as I know, New Order have never been nominated!!)

I really loathe Evanescence, but it could be because they received constant radio play this summer on the top 40 station that I was forced to listen to during work. The singer's voice isn't bad, but the instrumentation seems too trite - power chords, anyone? And the lyrics sound like bad teenage-angst poetry with religious undertones, although not as bad as Creed. I think they're incredibly overrated, although I'd rather see them receive a Grammy over Britney Spears, who has proved to be the Paula Abdul of this decade.

While I enjoyed her celtic like vocals the first billion times I heard that song, the neo-Lincoln Park metal crap that followed her voice was a turn off.

Sorta like you meet a hot chick, get her home and when she drops her pants you realized that her parts are the same as yours.:nono:

About the only good thing that's ever come out of Arkansas is Johnny Cash. That's it (though I do think Billary will be remembered in a much better light once Roger Ailes and Rupert Murdoch commit suicide together, and Fox News folds under its own spin). :thumb:

It's a bit like the joke about Georgia that South Carolinians tell: What's the best thing to come out of Georgia? Answer: I-85 Northbound :evil4:

Well, seems I didn't listen to the same song everybody did haha...

Well, the song "Going Under" reminds me of Garbage (the group.. :skeptic: ) as for The Immortal, it's just a very solid vocal performance I think...

Maybe it will be annoying in the long run, but I like it so far.. but one thing for sure, when the music really starts (other than the piano), I do remember Roxette's Listen To Your Heart... don't know why!

Anyways, it's not everyone's cup of tea I guess...

Comparing it to Roxette isn't really going to sell it Nic!

Indeed. I had to listen to their song about 10 times a day - no joke - while I worked in the summer. :chainsaw: doesn't sum it up properly. :violent:, however, does.

Amen to that! The whole nu-metal thing seems to be dying off, though. Let's hope it disappears completely soon.

I don't care if they have a hot chick as their singer, their music well and truly sucks - the fresher kids round our way are always playing that kind of dreck from their open topped chevros - bloody horrible... I guess the guitarist probably makes off with the girl - by sitting on her face .... this may explain her constant need for recourse to those excruciating operatics every time she opens her mouth. :evil4:

Hello! About Evanescence, all i can say is that you all can hate them and think they suck but i wouldn't say that after listening to the hits "bring me to life" and "going under" and nothing more. They became one of my favourite bands after listening almost 40 tracks - although "Fallen" is their first properly released album, they have a lot of tracks, and I liked most of them. I really like Amy's voice and she is supposed to write most of the music and lyrics - and she plays piano, too. One of my favourite tracks is "Missing", a b-side - it's hard to find a good file on mp3 sharing tools, but i liked it a lot.

Don't get me wrong, I only know 2 songs of them, so I can't say their shite or not!

I happen to like "My Immortal", and I noticed I knew Going Under by them...

But the lead singer is indeed hot... :love2:

My favourite Evanescence tracks are: -Bring Me To Life (Bliss Mix) - version without the "rap" vocals -Going Under -My Immortal (Full Band Version) -Missing -Taking Over Me -Imaginary -Away From Me - not on "Fallen" album

Well, they are not New Order but I think "Fallen" is very good for a first album and I hope they go on releasing good stuff (in my opinion). About lyrics, as a Brazilian I really don't pay too much attention. And after listening almost 40 tracks I wouldn't name them as "nu-metal"... Maybe "gothic rock"... or maybe "nu-goth"... :thumb:

nu-goth? the existence of such a genre scares me shitless.

Goth rock? I'm sorry, but Evanescence is about as "goth" as Slipknot. And nu-goth? Do you really see any bands trying to be the next Bauhaus or the Cure?

Chosing a genre for a band is not an easy thing to do... What genre is New Order?

Well, I think Evanescence is "nu-goth" not "gothic", as Linkin Park is "nu-metal", not "metal". If you listen to Haunted, Imaginary, Haunted, Even In Death you will know what I'm saying.

And Amy seems to be very talented 20 years old girl with a promising future - a beautiful voice, she plays piano very well and has even made the choral arrangements for the songs on "Fallen" and also on a superb track called "Listen to the Rain"...

I don't think Evanescence can even be considered goth. Really, their lyrics are just poorly written Christian poems about salvation.

jesus fooking christ...why do you kids all insist on finding a label to stick on people???

I don't like eveneswhatevertheirnameis...but I know plenty of fine folk that do...so who gives a rat's ass???

like what you like, and leave the rest alone...

Well, they have many songs about salvation, but...

"I took their smiles and I made them mine I sold my soul just to hide the light And now I see what I really am A thief, a whore, and a liar

I run to you Call out your name I see you there Farther away

I’m numb to you Numb, and deaf, and blind You give me all but the reason why I reach but I feel only air at night Not you, not love, just nothing"

I don't think this one is about Christ or anything like this. And "Tourniquet" is in fact about suicide theme.

And I agree, let people like them or not. I just saying what I think and of course I don't want to change anyone's opinion...

See ya!
