Can anybody tell the difference?

:skeptic: Being a man who does not come from a land down under, I don't believe I've ever had one. Put on the Croc Dundee trilogy and fry me up one, I'm game :thumb:

I think it's a fermented yeast paste-- dark brown, with the consistency of...peanut butter? It's salty, and has a weird aftertaste.

In the UK, they eat marmite, and in Oz, they eat vegemite (which I think is the same thing). They spread it on bread, apparently. Not sure if they do anything else with it. I've had both, but not in a side-by-side taste test, so I'm only going by memory here. We really need input from the Brits and Aussies on this one...

Whatever it is, it sounds nasty.

There is a difference, not too great though. The secret to Vegimite is to spread it thin. At least at first until you become an addict.

marmite/vegemite is a good source of iron, too.

I love Marmite (it's the growing up spread kids never grow out of!).

When I went to Oz I had Vegemite which I thought was OK as a substitute but after bringing a jar of the stuff back to the UK I soon decided it wasn't a patch on Marmite and ended up binning the last bit.

It's best on hot buttered toast (with some cheese if you're feeling a bit flamboyant!).

Chris :)

Well, I voted for vegemite 'cuz it's got a cool song to go with it...but now it looks like I'll have to compare the two. Thanks for the tip on toast (reminds me of another thread...)

... I suppose I asked for this poll, right?

Where's the "you've got to be joking haven't you?" option?

It's like being asked to choose between eating cow shit or horse shit.:)
