They have caught Saddam, but what about the real threat-George Bush, war is terrioismwith a bigger bank balance, America has proved that.
Saddam caught

How dare you talk bad 'bout the USA? You're un-American! :D
Just kidding...
As for the homeless bum they captured, I think it's good for everyone concerned, Iraqis and Americans. I don't think it'll put a stop to the attacks, but maybe we'll get better at stopping them. ![]()

"Ladies and Gentlemen - we got 'im!"
Right up there with the "Hammertime!" call to arms at the start of the war.

I only hope justice is done and that bastard gets what he deserves: strung up for all the war crimes he's committed while in power...not to mention various crimes against humanity! At least that'll prevent him from being re-elected in 2004.

Where did you get those photos of that homeless guy???
He looks like one of people that came to the Bethel Mission for Thanksgiving dinner.
Shock have the US caught Santa Claus?
Is Christmas cancelled?
LoL
well he does look a bit like Santa in some of those pics.

I'm glad they've got him, even if tragically it might help Dubya get re-elected. It might improve the chances of a positive outcome for the Iraqis and improve the chances of our escaping this quagmire.
But it makes me cringe the way the operation to capture him was named after the excreable (but hilarious, and revealing of the way certain Americans view the world) Nicaragua-invades-the-US movie 'Red Dawn'.
Its kind of hard to believe this ragged old duffer hiding in a hole was masterminding the Iraqi resistence though...

with all the money sadamm suposedly had and a whole 8 months before being captured, i have two questions.
- why of all the places you could have gone, you decide to go back to your home town?
- isnt 8 months enough time to plan an escape to a neighboring country, especially with all that cash?

Still, giving him death penalty isn't a smart thing to do. You'll create a martyr and thus the people who still believe in Saddam will surely take revenge. And those who don't believe in Saddam are happy to see that he's gone but also would like to see the US Forces go away...
This whole "We got him" thing just points out how inept Dubya really is. If bLuE oRdEr were President, I would have instructed the army to set up base at the farmhouse...indefinitely. And to play dumb, like they had no idea where Saddam was. That way, he would have had to wait in that little hole in the ground for at least the rest of my term. Now THAT'S some punishment.
Keeping him alive could result in a massive hostage crisis. Some muhgjie motherfuckers making demands for Saddam's release.
He should stand trial for war crimes and crimes against humanity, hung until death, cremated and have his ashes dumped into an undisclosed location on the Rhine just like what we did to the Nazis. Well Tigris/Euphrates rivers.
Three men enter, one man leaves.
That's how I'd do it. Thunderdome. Osama, Saddam, and Dubya. Strip 'em down to their shorts, give 'em each a horsewhip, and have at it three-way, like in The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly.
Blue, I think we have a winner. Saddam definetly is Tuco, Eli Walach's character, the Ugly, Osama is Angel Eyes Van Cleef's character, the Bad. That leaves Shrub as Clint Eastwood, the Good.
"I'm going to write the location of the WMD's on this rock."

You are right, of course.
So, let's talk about something that won't set each other off: cars.
I really like the OZ V8 Supercar series. Great cars (Commodores vs. Falcons), V8's, GM vs. Ford.
I went cruising the Ford AU site and to my dismay, found kick ass vehicles that will probably nver make it to these shores. The best is their Falcon Boss 290(about the size of a Taurus). The motor is esentially (from what I can tell based on horsepower and torque numbers) a naturally aspirated GT(40) motor (however, the site says the motor was designed and built in AU). 5.4l, 32V, DOCH. The 290 stands for 290 Kw. The conversion site I went to put that at 388 hp! The torque number was over 400 ft lbs.
The next coolest ride was their Fairlane (about the size of a Crown Vic). It was massaged by Tickford to 250 Kw (from what I understand, they are like AMG for Aston Martin but have tuned Fords in AU for many years).
Anyway, as a Ford man, I'm jealous that GM has the sack to import the Holden Monaro to be the new Pontiac GTO.
I still think that my "Saddam Hussein is the 3rd member of ZZ Top" was the best joke in this thread.
I must confess I liked very much the Santa Claus one too!

I've been naughty, and and here in Castle Anthrax, we have but one punishment for being naughty: eight score young blondes and brunettes, all between sixteen and nineteen-and-a-half, must tie me down on a bed and spank me.
A spanking! A spanking!
They must spank me well, and after they have spanked me, they may deal with me as they like, and then, I must give them all a good spanking!
A spanking! A spanking! There is going to be a spanking tonight!
And after the spanking, the oral sex.
The oral sex! The oral sex!
Well, I could stay a bit longer.
PS- We'll have to do the OZ V8s in another thread, I'm afraid.
Here is Saddam reviewing his troops: "What would you rather be doing than marching up and down the square?!"

its like this america theres this thing called free speech go and ask y0ur man michael moore about it i think bush is scum and should be tried for war crimes along with saddam hussein.. f**k them both.... but especially bush... bush is more dangerous to the world as a whole... saddam had no WMD or chemical capacity - it was all hype... bush has more chilling effects on our world as a whole than saddam if saddam walked out of the kyoto treaty i dont think anyone would give a f**k considering the state of the factories there must be environmentally unsound to say the least not to mention to fact they are getting blown to f**k everywhere.... depleted uranium cant do the environment any good either... america walking out of the kyoto treaty is like america saying f**k you to the planet (considering they are the biggest polluter) no we dont care how long the planet lasts - we'll just get as much now as we can and then take our chances in space i think thats basically what bush is saying.. money rules .... stick your environment up your depleted ass
there it is in a nutshell for ya yankee boyz (anyhow im just getting on a plane to waste a few tons of fuel)
please someone over there get rid of Bush
And how come no one else is allowed to have WMD? just the god dam yanks. They have not got a clue.
The Muslim people will defeat Amwerica, they have the one thing America does not have - They are prepared to Die.
BUSH the new Stalin
Mike...did you forget your medications this morning???
Americans aren't willing to die??? Hmm...who are the young men that have lost their lives in Iraq, Afghanistan??? Is the United States Army now hiring mercenaries from Canada???
And if these Muslims are so willing to die for their causes, then why didn't Osama fly the planes into the WTC and the Pentagon???
You know, I really don't mind when people have a gripe with Bush...he didn't even get the majority of the votes here, so go ahead...scream about that all you want...but when someone starts questioning the American people as a whole, that irks me just a wee bit...
Mike, do you realize that if Americans hadn't been willing to lay down their lives, you would probably be living in a part of the Greater German State??? No, the United States didn't win WWII by itself...but without aid from the US, how long would the UK have been able to stand up to the Germans???
And as far as only the US having WMDs...what fantasy land are you living in??? Who else has nukes...hmmm...the British have them...the French...India...Russia...Israel might...but if you don't see how it's in the best interest of mankind to limit who has access to these kinds of weapons, you are just as stupid as you allege George W to be...
Look at it this simply...guns aren't WMD...and your government won't even allow the genral citizenry to carry them...why???
now Mike, get down to a pub..have a couple of pints, and settle down...
Your reply was eloquent, I am just oppoesed to Bush dictating to the world.
With regards to guns, each month some nutter kills half a dozwn in the US, but the blame is never on guns is it.
Hvae you seen bowling for columbine? Bush shouldwatch it.
By the way my gripe is with Bush not the good people of the US , however, I still believ he has open a pandoras box.

So what were we going to do? Let another 10 years go by with Saddam fucking us in the ass? UN resolutions ignored.
Better still, wait until Israel gets nuked or poisened or clobbered, uniting all the Jew hating Arabs under Saddam. 45 minutes would be all it took.
Or do we wait until the bodies in the mass graves start making a run at Hitler's record? Rape rooms and torture chambers.
Or sit around like Europe did ignoring it like they ignored Bosnia/Serbia/Yugoslavia?

Please explain how your "non-response" to the post you're not responding to had anything to do with patriotism?
My response had nothing to do with patriotism (sp I am hungover from the strip bar last night). It had to do with the UN. If the UN had any relevance it would have given its resolutions the necessary teeth for enforcement and completion. Bush and Blair tried to get them to do this.
So they have not found any WMDs. But they removed an evil dictator who invades his neighbors, launches missiles at civilian targets, used chemical weapons against civilians and soldiers, attempts genocide (Kurds and Shiites) and places the bodies in mass graves.
I voted against Bush. Probably will vote against him if the Democrats can find someone with half a brain that will let me keep my car, cash and guns. I was not a big yahoo backing this war. But I have no regrets for what this war accomplished.
The people that really lack intelligence are the ones that say that Bush is the evil one and that Saddam should still be in power. Would the world be a better place if the US and GB let Saddam stay in power?
As for Israel. Yes its a crying fucking shame what goes on there. But they offered Arafat everything he asked for and would have given the Palestineans statehood. He turned it down. Be lucky that you do not live in a place where your mother or children or spouse or significant other would go to a grocery store and end up being blown up by some suicide jack off. How do you stop that?? They do not peace. They want all Israelis dead. Bad situation. But remember that Israel is the only stable democracy in that region.
Merry Christmas. May 2004 be a better year for everyone. May peace return to Earth.

israel never offered the palestinians everything they asked for. not during madrid, not during oslo, not ever. and statehood was so far in the distance as to be non-existent. after months and months of very difficult compromises, arguments, and secret talks, the israelis offered a patchwork of semi-autonomous regions that were bound to israel politically, economically and militarily. all members of the palestinian authority were to be vetted by the knesset, israel was responsible for palestinian external security, and trade would be linked to israel. perhaps this would be beneficial for both sides to some extent, but do not confuse it with 'everything they want.' arafat did accept the oslo accords, but after rabin's assassination and the election of netanyahu, the accords fell apart. the oslo accords had left the opportunity open for later talks and more concessions--however, the later talks were more rigid and arafat wanted to hold out for more. had arafat acquiesced, he would have no bargaining chips. the palestinians want east jerusalem as their capital, among other things, and if a binding treaty is signed any dreams of autonomy under conditions amenable to palestinians will be impossible. this is not being stubborn in a belligerent sense, it is simply political savvy, regardless of what one thinks of arafat and his leadership.
as for israel being a democracy: that is debatable, even amongst some israelis and israeli scholars. israel defines itself as a 'jewish state.' it also calls itself a 'democracy.' by defining itself as a state set aside for one particular group, israel has proclaimed its exclusivity, while the term 'democracy' assumes inclusivity. israel must decide which it is, a jewish state, or a democracy for all israelis, one-fifth of whom are non-jewish arabs. it's disconcerting to spend time on a saturday night going down the list of bars and clubs you want to go to, crossing them off because you have an arab with you (who is a citizen of israel, mind) and most bars and clubs don't admit arabs. arab israelis can only live in certain areas (and, conversely, are forbidden from living in most of israel), they must always carry identity papers with them, intermarriage is forbidden by law, and muslim israelis cannot serve in the israeli defense forces (some do want to, contrary to popular belief). with this policy of segregation is it any wonder there is so much misunderstanding and distrust between arabs and jews who are not given the chance to get to know one another as individuals? this israeli governmental policy hurts both arabs and jews. as this is the policy within israel, imagine wht it's like in the occupied teritories, where most arabs don't possess citizenship of any kind and suspicion runs ten times the level!
The fact remains that the Palestineans have been given many offers that could have granted them statehood. These may not have been perfect but they were a start. Compromise is what separate civilized people from peace or bloodshed. Rmember that when you see the new body count of yesterday's bombing. And most unfortunately, the revenge raids.
I almost believe that it requires an act of God to bring peace here. But after years of blaming the Israelis, I now think the Palestineans need to clean their act up and start working for peace.

i picked up a palestinian flag in the west bank a few years back that says 'independent [sic] day, 1993' on it. nice wish, but most likely a pipe dream. regarding your comment on palestinian statehood, the main reason for arafat holding out (no matter what the 'offical line' may be) is east jerusalem. it will be a cold day in hell before israel gives up east jerusalem. some scholars (including edward said) suggested making jerusalem a united nations international zone. again, probably a cold day in hell.
the palestinians have many reasons to be upset with the israelis. not all of them take up arms and want violence, however. if the israelis want an end to the suicide bombings they must look at the underlying reasons behind why people are willing to die and kill for their cause. it's economic devastation and social and political dispossession that breed terrorism--not only in israel/palestine, but everywhere. also, the palestinians have no history of self-rule, only of occupation--by the ottomans, the british, and now the israelis. they need cooperation from the israelis in order to build a civil society, not militarily meted-out collective punishment. this is what hamas and the islamic jihad want, to destroy any chance of peace by baiting israel.
i always wonder what might have been had rabin not been assassinated. he understood the need for self-determination for the palestinians because he had been there himself in the 1940s, when jewish organizations used terror against the british to gain their independence. i have a feeling things would be very different now.
