As a bit of a tradition I make my own top 10 of best albums at the end of each year. This the top 10 of my favourite albums of 2003:

So, what albums did you all like this year?
top 10? I'm struggling to think of even one album I really liked for 2003, Chemical Brothers Singles 93-03 for one but that's not really an album... hmmm 
oh yeh... Massive Attack's 100th Window was pretty cool too

am i getting old or does modern music really suck this bad?
I'm with everybody else, I can't think of 10 albums for the year. It may be due to my lack of buying anything from February until June (O Brother to Hail to The Thief), and then from June until October (Dear Catastrophe Waitress). 
I'll just go ahead and say Dear Catastrophe Waitress for number one...and try and fill in the list later :D
I am trying to remember if I purchased any albums that were released in 2003. Can't recall any. Almost bought Hot Hot Heat but opted for a pair of slacks instead.

martina topley bird - quixotic - quite brilliant. the raveonettes - chain gang of love elbow - cast of thousands audio bullys - ego war goldfrapp - black cherry four tet - rounds bunnymen - heaven up here (anniversary re-release) massive attack - 100th window white stripes - elephant billy bragg - must i paint you a picture - the essential billy bragg
still some am keen to check out - the rapture for instance. not a vintage year granted, but not bad.

Then again, there was that re-issue of the '94 Smashing Pumpkins album, Earphoria, which had really poor sound quality, aside from a '91 take of "Slunk." Better to buy the video.

thats an ace list! BSP is among my faves, too. but for some reason i have to take issue with the rapture. i only *really listened to house of jealous lovers before i bought the album--which is very suited for the dancefloor.
when i bought the album i was--for the most part--disappointed. sure, the last few tracks are good, but the recording is of poor-quality (in particular the guitar), one singer pulls off a bad PiL impression and the novelty wore off quickly.
don't get me wrong, not a *bad* listen, just not great.
speaking of four tet (well someone else other than me DID mention them) anyone else notice the last song title on the album?

They did: Miracles single and PopArt boxset. Did they not come out Stateside? I heard online about the Popart box set, but I've seen neither stateside so far, and I've checked both Virgin and Tower record stores.

The Rapture only made my list because there are some great tunes on this album, though I have to skip some other songs, which sound boring or even annoying. That's pretty much what I think of it. It made my list on account of there being some truly magnificent songs on there (for example, Olio, I Need Your Love, House Of Jealous Lovers), but yes, there are a few songs on it which don't really work for me and that are invariably skipped. Still, it is half a great album, and that's better than a whole good one.

If you ask: Yes, I liked Linkin Park's Hybrid Theory and liked even more Meteora!
I still have to listen Hybrid's album - I have only listened to 'True To Form' and 'Higher than a Skyscraper'.
