Subject line says it all. Apparently a lot of people are doing this from the various 'official' record industry sites. Why? I mean it generally works out as MORE than the cost of buying an album or single in the shops (assuming one shops around) and you get no printed art, no jewel case, massively inferior sound quality (I assume its mp3 not SHN format), no long lasting factory made cd media... And the music companies must be laughing themselves silly, as they are saving the distribution and retailers costs, and manufacturing and raw material costs and still charging at least as much as a normal cd.
I do hope this doesn't start to become the norm, with the illegal filesharers being closed down on the one hand and retail cd distribution fading away on the other as a critical mass of mugs moves to paying for downloads. If it does it would be a profits bonanza to make the Great CD Rip Off look like hard times for the industry.
