Jeez, first Mick the Lips and now Bill Gates...the Queen must be drunk a lot, what with nothing left to do as far as running the country :D

I'm still waiting for John Lydon to be knighted for services to popular music.

If he kills Peter Andre in the next two weeks I'll write to the Queen and nominate him.

The queen is whoring her country, not herself this time

I love the fact that they tried to knight John Cleese, but he wouldn't have anything to do with it :evil4:

Aside from my too-many-times-stated-and-frankly-unusually-volatile-for-a-Yank anti-royalism, I think the knighthood thing is a bit silly and unfair. Why did Sir Paul get the nod, and not the dearly departed J.L.? Or George and Richard Starkey, for that matter (Paul didn't play all the instruments himself until Wings :D ). Bill Gates isn't even British (he's Nerdish :p ).

:laugh::laugh::laugh: Probably. :evil4:

But he'll slap a copyright on the MBE, and charge everyone a royalty.

Why wouldn't Prince Charles like Barney & Hooky? Is it a Northern Monkeys/Southern Poofs thing?

I wish the Queen would do it. What is the point of knighting celebrities? Either they bring much money to the British treasury or they make a great impression of Britain to the whole world. Well, if so, John Lydon made me love the country. Not only him, but he's in the row. So why really wouldn't Lydon be knighted? But then if it would come true, it would mean there is a real anarchy in the UK. Never could be :p (BTW, I'm a monarchist, but not a devoted one, I just accept the idea of monarchy, no matter what).:nod:

Seems like you've rather missed Lydon's point, then?

The whole notion of knighthoods is ridiculous in the 21st century (pretty damn stupid in the 20th, while I'm thinking about it). It's a way for the establishment to make those forces that are against it (comedians, musicians, writers, etc.) unthreatening and nip any rebellion in the bud. I realize that's a bit generalizing, but why is the Queen knighting all these rock stars?...to keep them from pissing on the Royals!

Anyway, that's my two cents...and a half :thumb:

I guess Neil Tennant would've been knighted a while ago is he hadn't written "Dreaming of the Queen."

Well take it easy... Don't be so anti-royalist..., American :) That's not the point here. Knighting is just something that the state/goverment/people give to someone for his services in their country (no matter at what field they are). In France people are given Legion d'Honour, in Russia the President gives those people title of "People's Artist" or "Honoured Artist of Republic", in Germany they are given Iron Cross, in Africa - red skirts. So it's just indication of public services, not so much with "secrets" of the court :)

He's helped replace the common stereotype of Brits as effeminate homosexuals with the stereotype of big-lipped masculine bisexuals. That oughta count for something :evil4:

(I'm just a bastard today :shrug: )
