Are you in an abusive relationship?

I just sent something to a humor website (not the Onion, they're too good to take submissions
) on this very topic, albeit from a first-person point of view......bastards ![]()
oh well, I'm more of an enabler than an abuser :D

On a slightly wavering from the topic note, aren't we all victims of an abusive relationship just by being NOOLers? Yet still we come back time after time for more of that hard pounding...
Here's what I wrote about this topic, almost a week ago (I think). Compare and contrast, people...
SURVIVING SELF-ABUSE
Well, I suppose it had to come to this: after years of being pressured into some sexual acts that I never really wanted to participate in, I have finally found the courage to sue my attacker for monetary damages, on the stipulation that I was molested by this person as I got older, and that the pattern of abuse hasn't stopped despite repeated warnings on my part to this person. I have decided to seek counseling, commit myself to group therapy, and work through the emotional abuse left from years of abuse at the hands of...myself.
I know what you're thinking: "Sue yourself? But why?" My reasons are thus: over the years, from a period of about twelve or thirteen years, I have abused myself sexually, taking advantage of myself in ways that most courts of law would find abhorrant were there another party involved, and I have suffered abuse at my own hand, unable to fight back against the constant pressure that I have put myself through. Since I reached puberty, I have been both victim and victimized and I can't take it anymore.
It all began when I noticed I was stroking myself, after happening upon a picture of Cindy Crawford in some manner of undress. I was shocked that I was touching myself ...there, but I could do little about it. I was too strong to be overpowered by myself, and I felt ashamed that I had let me use myself like that. For days I couldn't look at myself in the mirror, for fear the memories of what I'd done to myself would come back.
From there it just got worse: I'd take advantage of myself whenever I could, and I really never managed to fight back without being subdued and violated by myself yet again. I was convinced that I was asking for it; after all, hadn't I brought this on myself by allowing myself to take advantage of me in the first place? Surely it was not my fault that I'd seen an oppertunity and taken it, and was now reaping the rewards of a submissive self that did nothing to halt me in my self-abuse.
Sometimes months would go by with no contact with myself, but then a fierce period of groping, stroking, and general abasement would follow (usually spurred by a hot sex scene on late-night Cinemax), and I would be back in the cycle of abuse. By the time I graduated from high school, I was my own bitch, slapping myself around and generally behaving like a bastard as I watched on, unable to defend myself.
When I first confessed that I suspected myself of abuse, no one believed me. After all, wasn't I an upstanding citizen and general all-around good guy. Why would I allow myself to be taken advantage of? I wouldn't hurt a fly, so it was hard for many to believe I could be so cruel. And the looks from people who wondered why I seemed so scared of exposure to bright lights...well, let me just say it was almost more unpleasant to be open about the abuse I suffered than to leave it hidden in the closet, along with the butter and the leather belts.
For years I hid from the world my dark secret, but now it seems like people are ready to hear me out and not judge me so harshly. I'm trying to be more gentle with myself, and I've sought counciling to help manifest a more suitable self-portrait than that of victim. I have promised I will never take advantage of myself again, and to not let myself be abused in any manner I would've devised in the past. Suffice it to say, I have never gotten along with myself any better than I am now, and I can make it through as long as I have myself by my side.
So perhaps I won't sue myself after all; I don't make that much of a salary and I couldn't support myself and me as well. I hope I can share what little wealth I have with myself, as some sort of compensation for my past behaviour. And I promise that, no matter what, I will respect myself far more than I did in the past, and I will try to assert myself in the face of my being bossy and pushy so I can't make myself take part in something I wouldn't wish on myself.
Self-abuse is a problem, but with the help of yourself, you can conquer it. I know I did, and I as well. I hope I've been some help to you if you're being self-abused as well. You don't have to take it, you can stand up to yourself. Just start by trying to understand why you hurt yourself, and you will make that breakthrough. Don't be a victim, or an abuser. Take some time to get to know yourself, and you both will be able to make it through the hard times (such as when the cable suddenly goes out)

Tabsy, this should be the liner notes. It will throw people completely, and one day in the future there will be entire websites dedicated to finding out the hidden meanings behind it all, and why it came to be on a CD of New Order songs. Fine work sir.
