what if it is a mild case that really just means you have a hard time sleeping? if i am at this point, do i have to stop it before it gets worse, or is it feesable to just maintain it at this level?

when you also start using it to get up in the morning, i think you'll be in too deep.

Don't mess with it. Alcoholism is by far the worst drug disease and the one which causes more deaths, you better be an heroin addict, you got more chances of cleaning up without serious damage. Check your liver. Getting drunk is cool when you go out for the weekend, but if you really abuse the fun becomes nightmare, the worst you can imagine.

yeah, i'm not waking up to a drink yet. i was just lying in bed the other night, having a hard time falling to sleep when i realized that it was the first night in over a week that i can't remember having at least one drink. then i started to expound upon that, and that i realized when i get home from my work-commute, i'm always craving a beer. so then i started to get paranoid... i'll get it figured out.

hey chunks, are you closer to the 94 or the 8? i live right on texas st, off the 8, up on the south hill.

Seriouisly, alcohol is a dangerous drug, I almost died last April in Niagara Falls, somehow laying on my back, I didn't choke on my own vomit (someone up there must like me)

But seriously....alcohol vs. marijuana....We criminalized the wrong drug. :evil4:

Not sure about that, puff makes you go mental in the end and smoking it RIPS your lungs apart.

With, ahem, chronic use for years and years, that is possible, marijuana has more carinogens, etc. But the fact is that a relatively small amount of alcohol can kill someone (and their liver after a few years), and marijuana is impossible to OD on. Alcohol is highly addictive, and weed is more of a bad habit than anything (i.e., easy to break) Now I'm not a stoner, just giving the facts, or the way I see em :D

*Hey Sean, a beer when you get home is more Homer Simpson / Fred Flinstone / Howard Cunningham than a real alcoholic. ONE beer after work is alright, you've worked, you come home, sit on the sofa, watch telly and drink a beer. It's alright. I always have to drink coffee and smoke a cigarette after lunch (and more during the rest of the day), that's much worse. Some drink a glass of wine for dinner, some drink a whiskey in the evening, it's alright really. Alcoholism means you drink three or four times a day, real alcoholism is doing breakfast with a bottle of wine, going to work drunk, coming home and having half a bottle of whiskey... Anyway yes, alcohol is definitely much, much more damaging than marijuana, which also causes much less damage than the smoke of legal tobacco cigarettes.

yeah, i'm not worried about full fledged alcoholism. i just worry about sinking into a patern that'll then create a dependence. a beer after work is fine. i worry about a beer after work everyday to the point where if i happen not to have one, will i get edgy? will i not be able to fall asleep because of a mental dependence? it's all very minor, but the last thing i need is another vice.

chunks, how far is your exit passed college or mass ave?

i agree and disagree, ive talked to recovering alcoholics who did not drink 3 or 4 times a day, it's not the number of times you drink a day, it's the thought process. like "i cant relax after work if i dont have a beer". why do you need it to relax, what do you feel physically and emotionally if you dont have that drink after work? there are tons of scenarios like this that should'nt be dismissed. other signs from people ive talked to at a few AA meetings I went to say it's a pattern, they need a drink monday, tuesday , and sunday at X time and if they dont they freak, basically drinking excessivly a day is'nt the only way to define an alcoholic.

should note that I am not an alcoholic, but know a few, some got help, others didnt, and others keep re-lapsing.
