hell, yeah. summer of '84, switching our TV back and forth between space invaders on the commodore 24 and the los angeles olympics. good times.
I remember being really impressed by the old tennis game that had a line for a player either side of the screen & a square dot for a ball,which you had to stop going off screen by moving up & down. How times have changed!:)
Kikstart 2 on the commodore 64 is still one of my favourite games and I occasionally dig it out of the loft and have a go :D
Settlers on the amiga was / is the best 
I just spent an hour on Tetris...I'm so ashamed of myself :(

When my parents bought a mac performa in '95, someone gave them a disc with asteroids, tetrus, and pac-man on it. For about a year, I couldn't stop playing those games, but they aren't the same as playing them on a game system or in an arcade.
starcastle...qbert...tempest....defender....joust...they ate every quarter I (or anyone else I knew) had when I was young....now my quarters sit uselessly in a drawer....
Dragon's Liar, not sure when that came out but hell the video machine ate loads of quarters.

Hey, Galaga made it on to the movie WAR GAMES...but TRON is my forte and I'll challenge a mofo any damn day of the week!!
boulderdash was favourite home pc game, on the com 64, but the arcades saw me spending my 10ps on space invaders at 1st, then asteroids, tron & galaxian.

I went through a stage of downloading all the old Spectrum games a couple of years back. You forget just how SMALL the files are, though 'in the day' you'd take half-an-hour playing then replaying your cassette recorder till it loaded properly. The 'Ultimate' games were the biz - Jetpac, Pssst, etc - and that wonderful cheesy muzak from Jet Set Willy. Mind, Chucky Egg was just as sh1te as I always remembered it.
Couldn't beat Defender or Mr Do in the Arcades though. Many a mispent Saturday in me yoof spent on the former.
Manic Miner was always my fave.
Getting the old man to buy a Spectrum has to be my childhood piece de la resistance. "I need it for my Computer Studies O'level, I have to write a program as part of the course work". Cue months of playing games, and one night hurredly copying a program out of a magazine to hand in...
Had a speccy+ (normal speccy in a posh case with plastic keys and a space bar!)
The joy of getting pokes (cheats) to work was immense, you'd sometimes spend hours typing them in often with a mate reading out lines and lines of numbers which you had to painstakingly enter. Make one mistake and it wouldnt work, and often magazines had typo's in them so you would have to wait for the next months edition of Crash or whatever speccy mag you read to get the corrected version!
But oh the joy of when you got invicibility or infinate health and could play through the whole game and marvel at hideous colour clash level after level, and find out that once the game was completed you got no more than a "Congratulations" message and then it looped back to level one! fantastic!!

MOON PATROL!!?!?! i haven't thought about that game in eons...
i put asteroids on my dad's IBM PC when i was a kid in '84. i would spend hours after kindergarten trying to get a hold of that game... now, the bar down the street has the original arcade version. me and my neighbor head down there with a pocket full of quarters and drink pint after pint of balast point's yellow tail

I know, but i can't always be bothered to dig out the C64, spend 10 minutes loading the game and then wacthing it crash. 
Can't be as bad as the Amstrad CPC464 I had. Those Roland games were murder trying to load up.
It was quite hilarious to watch my little sister attempt to play Tetris for the first time last night 
(she never once made a complete line!)
