Ma wee cousin Steve is having problems saving tracks from CD's, he's managed to turn them into MP3's via Real Player, but for one reason or another there is NO sound when he tries to play them back.
The stuff he has managed to download from the internet play perfectly, anyone got any ideas?

That's weird... can he actually play real CDs though this computer? Is there sound?
Yeh i can get sound ok when i play CDs through my system, and also when i play mp3s i've downloaded from Soulseek. It's just the tracks i've converted into mp3s on my own system that don't have sound. Maybe there's a driver i'm missing or something?

Well, it have to be the software then.
You can use Windows Media Player to encode them into WMA, or use any other one (I use Easy CD-DA Extractor)...
Otherwise, it's your cd-rom drive that has problem to do CDDA (audio extraction)...

Yep, i think you're right. I have exactly the same problem when i use Windows Media Player. Bollocks. Does this mean i need to get my CD Rom Drive looked at?
Yeh cheers folks. Audiograbber did the trick. 
It was something to do with ASPIs and schi1's. Loadsa technical bollocks i don't understand. But its sorted anyway.
I always use Windows Media Player. I deleted RealPlayer because of spyware and the fact that it it always wanted to be on the start up.
I did have the same issue the other day but resolved it by adjusting the volume setting somewhere hidden on my pc.
