Chernobyl... Harrisburg... Sellafield... Hiroshima...

Having been mighty impressed by "Radioaktivity" when we saw Kraftwerk, out of idle curiosity I typed Chernobyl into Google and found this rather eerie site:

it was like the big fearful anti nuclear thing in national school. what if sellafield blows up? well, i gess were all fucked. esically scene as its a "target rich environment" as los americanos would say.

There was a double page spread on her yesterday in The Indy.

I found this site a week ago. Great indeed! It changes your vision of nuclear power... (and I know what I'm talking about, working in an electricity company).

this is fascinating. terrifying, but fascinating.

This is what I mean when I say real life is much more scary than any horror movie. Humans don't have to imagine anything, they did far worse things than anything they could invent for a story.

A horrible thing, but still intriguing. Reminds me of one of those Mad Max post-apocolyptic movies...the Ghost Town and the eerie silence thing is pretty Spooky

After spending an hour on that website I found myself quite depressed and unnerved.

Those pictures made me think of the J.G. Ballard landscapes and his feel of the reality. It's cool but it's sad, unhumanly sad.

Thanks so much for finding and sharing that site, sobering stuff about that terrible day, and the things future generations will have to deal with.

I know it can be fascinating, just like seeing the real thing of a post-atomic sci-fi movie. But imagine if that was YOUR town, your house, your car, your photos on the wall... The "funny" thing is I've recently learnt that in a few decades all the current nuclear powerhouses will have to be knocked down because they'll have run their courses, and that will be terribly expensive and dangerous, much more then them running now.

You were joking, right? I think there are hundreds of nuclear powerhouses all over the world, and each one of them may cause disasters to a very wide area (we luckily don't have nuclear energy in Italy, but it's packed of them in France, and each year they have quite some untold "small" accidents). But I don't really think there'll be more than a dozen of disasters like Chernobyl. So where do you escape? You shouldn't live near an airport either, because a plane could crash on your house. Or drive a car, that's actually dangerous. I don't know, it just seems our parents didn't think at our children when they built those powerhouses... they wanted energy back then, but they didn't think what would happen when those powerhouses would cease their activity. Still I wouldn't worry too much about serious accidents like Chernobyl (they're less likely in advanced Western technologies). I'd rather worry about the current effects of the nuclear on the environment and health, since you live so close... what does it do to the air and the water etc.

No,i wasnt joking-i do live across the field from a Nuclear power station,but i was joking about selling it. It was only built 6 years ago & cost more than i`ll earn in 10 years,but my missus had her way!
