I've been hearing some of you yabber on about "Shaun of the Dead", which I foolishly assumed was a Huntsmanesque play upon the recent cinema title "Dawn of the Dead".
However, I did a bit of digging around imdb.com and I kept reading references to the TV series "Spaced", which didn't make it down here. But it seems to have been reviewed well and contains lots of inhouse cinema references and Star Wars anecdotes. Sounds cool.
So - can anyone recommend "SotD" or "Spaced"?

Not seen Shaun of the Dead, but Spaced was sooperb. Missed it on TV (it was always on Fridays) but bought both series on DVD last year and me and the Mrs couldnae put 'em down. Quality Brit-com. Can watch it over and over and over again. Hilarious.

It's the little wierd touches that make it genius 
One day with far too much time on me hands I sat and watched all the 'film homage' bits. I expected it to just be extras, with the film references pointed out, but instead it works like subtitles so you have to watch each episode in full again to work out what's what!
Funniest was the 'Joey' reference - they actually explained that at the bottom of the screen. Blue Peter's Joey Deacon! Didn't think that was necessary, but there you go.. .
Spaced went straight over my head - much in the sameway The League Of Gentlemen did, I have since rewatched TLOG which was class but never got round to Spaced.
That film looks good from the trailers though - probably get it on DVD when it comes out
'Spaced' was fairly good, though there was too many geeky sci-fi/Star Wars/cult TV references for my liking. To me, a really good sitcom should avoid just catering to readers of SFX magazine, & go for a slightly broader spectrum of viewer.
'Shaun Of The Dead' looks more of the same, to be honest. My best friend Dan saw it & loved it, but after all, he`s the typical SFX reading, 'Spaced' loving, 'Star Wars' freak I mentioned a moment ago!
PS Saw that Rebecca Loos interview on Sky One a couple of nights ago, I cant blame Davey-Boy for jumping into the sack wioth her, shes 20 times more attractive than that talentless, fame-addicted mare Victoria, who, by the way, is about as "Posh" as a tin of Tesco Value Baked Beans.

Soooo, by your definition, anyone who enjoyed Spaced is a 'typical SFX reading, 'Star Wars' freak'?! 
I'd stick my hand up and say I don't even know a single soul who'd fit that description. But you have one as your best friend?! Freak! :p
Bloody 'ell. I must've totaly missed the point of Spaced, I was laughing AT readers of SFX and Star Wars fans I've never read SFX,Star Wars leaves me underwhelmed and yet I still think Spaced is one of the most inventive comedies ever, so it's either a great crossover genre or I shouldn't be laughing at the geeks, and who is to say I can,t laugh at the geeks ? I also think SOTD will stand up to repeated viewing as I'm sure there were references I missed first time as I was laughin too much. Hope it does well elsewhere too, a film for SFX readers and comedy fans alike

To use the argot of the ad-men, nobody fitted the profile described by James, it was as they say a broad demographic,at least in the UCI Trafford centre on sunday, and me Mam is going tonight, and me Mam thinks Star Wars cant hold a candle to the original Star Trek and she aint keen on that either. And as she's in her mid sixties I doubt if she has a SFX subscription, though she probably reads any references in Tv Quick.
spaced was ace, the homageometer was a bit weird though - the worst offender being the robot wars reference when there was a model robot on the screen & they were fighting other robots...
