Went the cinema last night with all the lads. Not a very lad think to do i admit,but seeing as we watched The Football Factory i`ll let it go. Excellent film,but terrible timing. 1 month before Portugal 2004 & the most realistic film about football hooligans "Hits" the screen (sorry!). Highly recommended.

'Terrible' timing? Surely the timing's perfect as far as the promoters are concerned - immediately before the European Championships? It's certainly got it a lot of publicity as a result.
I've only seen the bootleg DVD that's been doing the rounds and not seen the final edit but the language has been creeping into other boards I inhabit for a while now - jog on, stumblembum, psy' (or is si? not sure where that one comes from?), soppy bollocks, etc. Great film for quoting, especially the imaginary ruck between Billy Bright and the Turk at the junior football game.
And those lads certainly now how to put away the old powder!
Good soundtrack too - Orbital, Leftfield, Fischerpooner, etc. Though WHAT THE FCUK they thought they were doing playing the C*re when Chelsea go down to Millwall I'll never know! 
Agree , brilliant timing , time for a bit of moral outrage etc from folk with nowt better to do ,or need to bury a bit of bad news policy wise.
One of the big sellers on pirate 'round here , and as such the argot is creepin into the vault , our Joe informs me it's big at secondary school too.
Will check out the source material now, mistakenly thought/assumed it was Kevin Sampson .

John King, not Sampson.
Sampson did Awaydays, which is a damned good read - Tranmere in the early 80's (or is it late 70's?). Joy Division get mentioned a fair bit.
King's done three books on Chelsea/England - Football Factory, England Away, Headhunters. He's also a big muzo and probably a similar age to your good self Gary, to which Human Punk attests - leaving school in the late 70's listening to the Clash and suchlike. Bit too much social comment in his books in places but they're undisputably 'British', if you know what I mean.

I'll be checkin them out , read awaydays and assumed football factory was a title change and a loosely based on thing, till I saw it
Like Sampson's Powder as well, fookin funny as , me and our kid cant agree who the main protagonist is based on, probably an amalgamation of a few singers with diva like leanings , the bass player for my money is based on Alex James' SoHo persona.

True left school summer of '78, still listening to The Clash and watching Rude Boy , social commentary can stay in the past mostly, though Social engineering can still get me on a soapbox .... mind you back in the days when schoolchildren read , Richard Allens Skinhead and Suedehead books were the tome of choice , I'd put money on Sampson havin read a few .
Well, as it happens I've just been to see this. Mate from Noo Yoik passing through town and desperate for some culture and sophistication before jetting back to the 3rd World.
Thought the soundtrack was awful compared to the pirate, but I suppose the DVD that's doing the rounds just had stuff tagged on it for effect after the first draft and they used more 'obvious' songs. However, the likes of Phat Planet playing when they do the Tottenham pub and I Travel on the road to Liverpool were infinitely better choices.
Tommy Johnson's voice-over's been changed totally too - and how come Dudley Sutton's now his grandad instead of just Bill from the pub? After all, who calls their Grandad by his first name?
Otherwise the film's exactly the same bar a couple of minor alterations - they ruined two of the biggest laughs of the film by leaving 'em out. Young Zebedee standing up in court and threatening to batter anyone who taxes his Lacoste, and the show-stopper of them all when it turns out the Juniors fight between the Turk and Bright is just a dream sequence. Seemed out-of-order really making you think they were doing that for proper. Oh, and that additional bollocks about Johnson forgetting he'd digged Barbara just seemed a waste of 3mins air-time.
Good to hear Going Underground as the final credits rolled though.
