Can't help thinking that he has rather wasted some of the talents and resources he's had available to him, and he's managed to turn an array of colourful and attacking players into a 0-0 unit that often seem happy to leave with what they arrived with.

The only thing I hated was his record against our lot otherwise he did a fantastic job.

Always feel a bit gutted when a manager goes, but here it seems like a necessary move. I just don't consider any of the named candidates adequate for the job - Curbishley's done a good job at turning a very mediocre team into a consistently solid one, but I'm not convinced he's cut out for top-level management (if being manager of LFC counts for such a thing); O'Neill's passionate, but some of his purchases have been suspect; Rafael Benitez seems disinterested, and I doubt this would change even if he were to accept the post.

Houllier deserves to be remembered as one of the club's better managers; I personally don't think he was ever the same after the heart op. His purchases up to then had been inspired (let's not forget that Biscan was actually a decent player during his first season at the club). Sadly, the post World Cup spending backfired, though this is surely down to the players rather than Houllier; I don't know any manager who wouldn't have taken on Diouf or Diao after their performances for Senegal.

Biscan is a good player - I suspect there may be off-pitch influences that have detracted from his performances. The problem with Diouf, Diao etc is that they managed to stay a little Senegalese clique, they never had to go the extra mile to learn how to integrate with the rest of the team as they were always able to stay within their own ranks.

Sometimes the hardest bit of buying players (and I have first-hand experience of both being bought, sold and having to do the same as a manager) is in gauging who you're getting, not just whether they can play. Most top-flight managers do a lot of homework on the player's personality and lifestyles before committing to a deal. Some do not, though, and decide that a talented hellraiser will always overrule the one who likes to be perfectly sensible and ordinary once away from training/match day.

Get with the program ! Megger couldn't cope with real pressure and an expectation to deliver things like trophies, he's done well with a tinpot bunch of nobodies, turning them into a promotion side again, but they'll be back down so fast they won't know what's hit them, and this time it will hurt financially.

From a Celtic fans point of view, i have to admit to being a little worried as i think Liverpool are one of the few clubs steeped in tradition and rich in history who could offer Martin O'Neill a fresh challenge to restore them to former glories.

I like Liverpool FC, historically they're the greatest British club of all-time, & though I'm not a supporter, I wish their players, staff & fans well & hope that they can find a manager who will once-and-for-all restore LFC to glory days similar to the 1970s & 1980s.

Martin O'Neill would be an OK choice for 'Pool manager, though let's be honest, he's had it easy up at the Scottish Pointless League, hasn't he? Martin may find managing an ambitious but struggling Premiership club a lot harder than a Scottish club whose calibre of Saturday-afternoon opponents range from above-average to downright crap.

O'Neill should go to Anfield if he really wants to further his career, & make a real go of wrestling the plaudits away from Arsenal & Scumchester United, but if he's just content to rest on his laurels he should be left to stagnate at Celtic.

I've heard he'll likely end up at Spurs. Hopefully he'll try and sign up some of his poorer sigings. Spurs have a history of being interested in those that haven't quite cut it at Anfield.

I certainly haven't, maybe it was the right decision time will tell but we could do a lot worse than what he has done for us.
