Who remembers Technique - The Band? — Forum Archive

Going through the cd collection and found this single called 'new horizon' i beleive. from around 94? two birds in the band.

i remember them being interviewed on some kids tv music program and they had some good stuff running of sequencers, very techniquey (album) in feel.

i think the reason they got the airtime was that one of the birds was the girlfriend/wife of some important and well known record label boss.

the single was overproduced and lacked any real go and AFAICT they disappeared.

in unrelated news I cleaned out the airing cupboard today and found an electronic 'get the message' t-shirt. i don't remember buying that!

in more unrelated news im thinking of moving to NZ (from UK)

replying to my own question finally google spat out the required data. On Creation Records from 1998. My have been McGee's bird. from the website

1998 : Creation releases records by Arnold, Bernard Butler, One Lady Owner, Technique. None of which cross into the mainstream.

and funnier....

1999 : Not Creation's best year musically: Kevin Rowland only sells 500 copies of his album 'My Beauty' and is bottled heavily on stage at the Reading Festival. Mishka is unvelied as the new Creation signing.

McGee announces his departure from Creation.

The force behind the band was Kate Holmes, who is married to Alan McGee and was in Fraizer Chorus before Technique. Apparently the band opened for Depeche Mode in Europe, which led to Holmes next project, Client, being signed to Andy Fletcher's label.

Saw a prototype Doves support Technique at the 100 Club once, must've been one of their first gigs after their name change?

Client actually were Technique for a while. The blonde out of Technique left and Sarah Blackwood (phwoar!) took over vocal duties. Don't think they lasted long before changing their name though. Few of us from here went to see (oggle?) Client for me birthday last month.

I was born in New Zealand, it's like England in the South Pacific. It's an incredibly beautiful country, except Auckland, it's shite. If you decide to move there choose Wellington, it has a population of around 300,000, electric buses, lots of tunnels to drive through, the people have a weird accent which is impossible to decipher and it's on a major fault line! What more could you want? Go for it mate.

Yeaaah sounds good. Wellington is where I have been looking at. The impression i get about NZ is it's like England without the sucky parts, its safer, cleaner, friendler and doesn't have places like Sheppy -> http://www.sheppeyscum.com :eek3:

Nice,blue like the 12" sleeve with a massive 2 on the back,bit like a football shirt if memory serves me. Still got my-although im too large for it nowdays,so its wrapped and stored away!

When the original singer left, the duo split up there and then...... Sarah Blackwood never sang with Technique - as far as I know she actually sang with DUBSTAR - who were a three piece from Newcastle produced by Stephen Hague (thus there lies the NO/Pet Shop Boys connection) who were often compared with St Etienne (one fit bird, two male backing boffins) but sounded instrumentally more like the Smiths set to a dance beat.

What did Technique actually sound like anyway.....? :)
