Anyone here besides me a fan of Depeche Mode? I've been a fan of their music for over 17 years and think they've put out some wonderful music. ...Enjoy The Silence, Personal Jesus, I Feel You, Policy Of Truth, It's No Good... the list goes on and on.... what do you think?

Everything Counts and their cover of Route 66. 101 aint bad but....

They have a few good albums from the middle of their career, but the stuff from the beginning is mostly mediocre new romantic songs and the later albums are too dull.

Never bought anything by them and remember one reviewer saying they "dont have the spunk and cheeky playfulness of New Order" which kind of summed up why i dont care much for them.

last album i bought by them was "Violator", favourite album is "Black Celebration".

Violator is a CLASSIC. Every song is good. SOFAD is like that also, but not as good. Some Great Reward is a great older album, and Ultra is a good chill-out album that I've rediscovered lately. They're steadily becoming a lounge act, though...as seen from the progression from Ultra to Exciter.

I can't really see them as a lounge act, though, unless they just play "I just can't get enough" for a bunch of teenagers who want nostalgia.

101 is my favorite live album of all time. i have always loved depeche mode but interest lately has been dying. exciter sucked, ultra one of my fav's, violator is classic but i over-played it over the years.

Despite leaving behind their cheesy 80's pop songs on the last tour in favor of the boringly earnest lounge music of Exciter, I think we'll see the video for 'It's No Good' as portending more than you know.

Violator is one of the best albums of all time, and I could play World In My Eyes all day long and would not get tired of it at all.

I concur, Tristan. WIME was the song that got me into them in the first place. I love 'em! :love2:

Any song you play all say you'll eventually get sick of...even if you forget about it playing for a while. I've done that with World in My Eyes. For me, Enjoy the Silence would be the one I'd repeat if it weren't for that extra long outro on the album. Good thing I have the single!

Policy of Truth is another good one to repeat ad nauseum. Same with Never Let Me Down.

depeche mode are my favorite band, my favorite albums by them are black celebration and construction time again, and the best songs are world full of nothing, behind the wheel, waiting for the night, and the love thieves

Definitely for DM. My CD/DVD/VHS collection is over run by both bands (DM/NO). Although I would have to say (even the some die hard fans would have to agree) DM is a bit better live.

Fucking love em! Always have! Have WAY too many CD/DVD/LPs of theirs...and NO ONE can talk me outta them...they're Grrrrrreat!! :thumb:

Not a bad band at all, shame it took me so long to get into em.

Wouldn't it be great if DM and NO both released their new albums within weeks of each other, and both are on par with Black Celebration or Violator, or Low Life or Technique

Oh, thank God, another great band. In fact, I've never really made up my mind between NO or DM. I guess it depends on the mood I'm in. My favorite album is Songs of faith and devotion. Oh, my God, I just can't get enough of Walking in my shoes and Mercy in you:thumb:

I'm a bit tired of Depeche Mode's singles so I'm not especially excited about their new remix collection. That being said, they have a ton of lower profile tracks that are excellent.

Off the top of my head:

But Not Tonight The Things You Said Halo Waiting For the Night Blue Dress Judas The Bottom Line When the Body Speaks

I still remember a 1990 review saying about 'Violator': "Imagine New Order playing Muddy Waters";)

By the way, I once asked Dave Gahan to sing 'I just Can't Get Enough' for the encore and he did. But somehow he was pissed off - all the people were screaming out Martin, no voice for poor Dave. Actually I like their B-sides and decently made remixes (like 'Enjoy The Silence', 'Rush').

The Things you Said is an excellent, underrated track. But, they're still mostly a singles band.

Oi!!! I would ask if you would bend on this a little bit, but now that I've thought about it some, you'd just turn into some gay joke concerning Mode. :skeptic:

This is a New Order website not a gay band forum, please stop posting about Depeche and the Cure.

Ok then, think of it this way Mike, there are a fair number of DM (Not You) and Cure ( ) fans here right? Well, IF...and this is a BIG if you were to keep ragging on them everytime someone brings them up...then it is fair to assume you will receive some sort of backlash and leave your posts open to retort.

Therefore, I propose this...when those two evil bands (In your mind) are in fact brought up...then just let it go....

Myabe...it'll just die away.

But I doubt it!!!

This ones for Diggy Mike B!!

So I got me the new DM 81-04 Remixes 3 disc set the other day, and let me tell you that there are some real hidden gems in there! It almost serves as a reminder to what NO should've done with recycle and what the Cure did with JOIN THE DOTS.

Master & Servant (ON-Usound Dance Hall Sci-Fi Classic). Here's a mix that has been almost lost in limited edition vinyl for too long. I have one of the original runs of 500 of these...so I was quite excited! But I understand that is has since been re-pressed on vinyl a couple times since...but at least there's a nice digital version out that sounds great!

World In My Eyes (Daniel Miller Mix) Mixed in 1990 along with the rest of them but BY FAR...the best mix of them all!! Why this wasn't released before is beyond me!!! MUCH better than that MODE TO JOY shit!!!!!!! I'm a little peaved that the Pulsating Orbital Vocal didn't make it buuuuuuut...I guess you can't have 'em all, right?

OK then...I've more a couple more to pour over yet so I'l get back to you DMB about your favorite band!! :thumb:

The new version of NOTHING fucking rocks!!!

U2 sucks and that's all.

My favourite band is System 7, with Steve Hillage at the helm.

Thought it was Hawkwind. Just discovered Silver Machine again.

Considering this is a DM thread and I'm listening to DM right now, all I have to say is, "Let's play... master and servant."

But not literally.

In 5 years: and you thought Queen Latifah's jazz standards were good... here comes Martin Gore and Dave Gahan (eternally linked by their fat wallets) with their jazz versions of 'California Dreamin', 'Copacabana'...

Little 15 isn't that great of a song, let alone a single.

Hence why they released it as a single exclusively...in FRANCE!

OK...lighten up dude. It's Friday night...I'm sure there's a special on BJ's down the street from you. :smoking:

And yes...it was a poor choice for a single...although, if a song is released in one country alone, using a modified catalogue number separate from the normal scheme, does is really count as a single??

A serious question about this band, are they GAY like the Pet Shop Boys?

Now...back to bitching about the new 3 disc release...I am also a bit miffed that the Beatmasters Mix of Behind The Wheel was left off as well!! This, is a crime...and yet some foolish fucking mix of Lie to Me made it on there....I'm gonna puke.

So many mixes, much comparable to our dismay about Run2 or the original Ceremony on RETRO, will be lost in the anals of time.

First you say they're not gay, and then they say they are lost in their anals...

Man, you are so hard to follow!!!!!! :D
