I may have blown out my speakers today whilst listening to The Ramones. How the hell did that happen?

The speakers are good, but ancient. Perhaps it was just the volume? Gonna try 'em again this weekend and hope I don't need to replace 'em anytime soon, still bein' on a student budget an' all...

The extension cord to my audio had once caugt fire while I was listening to something good, but I can' remember what. Funny smell it was, at first I'd thought it was the cat.
