Duran Duran

I personaly like them, quite a bit. The old stuff is great, and some of the new stuff isn't so bad either.

I never really minded them fools.

I have always dug the song (& viddy ) Girls on Film. That's pretty good stuff.

And I must say that I do stand by my opinion that their Thank You album is HIGHLY underrated. Their take on Crystal Ships by the Doors is superior in every way me thinks.

And Perfect Day by Lou Reed a la Duran Duran is pretty freaking good too!

Best singing that flamer Simon has ever done!!!

They do an awesome cover of femme Fatale. Their stuff after Notorious has been decent. But their first album and Rio standout.

Basically, the first album drifts in pretty decent stuff and then Rio becomes a huge hit with all the girls. The next album solidifies them as a fat chick band and destroys any credibility they had. It took decades for them to regain any respect but they stuck with it.

Now I saw the reunion at Inland Invasion III. Impressed that they openned with Friends off the first album. Could only stare in disbelief when 20,000 people held lit cig lighters during Ordinary World. Even more astonished that a significant portion of the crowd left when their set ended and the Cure began. Suprised to note that I smoked more pot watching Duran Duran than I did at a Howard Dean political party put on by my Dead Head friends (no smoke that night).

Talentles hacks, but i did buy their first album, but gave it to a friend a couple of months later when i realised they were just ripping off Japan.

Well, it'll always have a place in my young heart. The uncensored version, when it was released was too racy for the TV here and was only played on the Playboy channel late at night. As a young buck, it was easier to talk my folks into watching 'Music Videos' than it was to watch the 'Other' programming on said channel.

A growing boy had to get his kicks somewhere!!

Thought she was the one who loved DD a lot. Myself, I can take 'em or leave 'em, didn't mind some of their songs on the radio, though I heard Planet Earth and changed the channel, don't think that was one of their better ones. Ordinary World is one I catch myself singing, and their cover of Femme Fatale was much better than I'd thought it would be.

Certainly one of DD's most enduring tunes! The only song of theirs that i ever liked was "Planet Earth", which is why i bought their debut album and then i realised that it was shit.

Duran Duran may get more than their fair share of hype, but they have recorded some great music.

The first album was brilliant, and had such a distinctive sound that were they to have made anything remotely different they would inevitably have been criticized for selling out.

But the second album was very good too.

The band are not as acclaimed for their albums as much as they would like to be mostly because they allow themsleves a little too much lyrical indulgence, but they are still a class act.

That said, I wasn't too impressed with '(Reach Up For The) Sunrise'.

But I genuinely hope that the album is subtly brilliant, if only so that it gives the band good publicity that will drive the likes of New Order, Depeche Mode and Simple Minds into making as high a standard of music and live performances as they possibly can.

I have to say I've always detested their music in a big way.

My wife, however really likes them. I had to take her to see them live atthe Manchester Apollo a few years ago so we got into manchester early afternoon and hot he bars.

By the time we got to the gig I was too pissed to care who was playing

I hate the fact that theyre 80s sounding,padded shoulders wearing twats who get lifetime achivement awards while NewOrder get fucking ignored and never get any recognition whatsoever.

Well, my missus used to like them when she was younger (I suspect she still likes them now, though she wouldn't admit it cos she's still too preoccupied with wanting to have tea and cakes with Morrissey), but all I have to do for a good night's comedy is to simply listen to Simon le Bon's ridiculous vocals on "Wild Boys" and I just piss my pants laughing. :D

Duran Duran have a new album coming out later this month. This is what Simon Le Bon has to say about it. "It's like Kraftwerk meets the Mamas and the Papas". Sure Simon, that makes sense. "We've got Andy Taylor doing actual guitar solos". Which must be a first in music history Simon, yes? The first single will be called "Astronaut", Le Bon says "It's the same feeling as when "Girls On Film" came out. What did that sound like? Nothing you'd ever heard before". Well, Mr Le Bon, i had actually heard music like that before, it was by a band called Japan. You remember them don't you? You must, since you stole all of their ideas and turned it into shit.
