Marc Almond "Critical" After Crash

LONDON (Reuters) - Singer Marc Almond, who scored a worldwide hit in 1981 with "Tainted Love" as part of the duo Soft Cell, is in critical condition in hospital after a motorcycle crash, police have said.

"There was a serious collision between a car and a motorcycle in London on Sunday afternoon and the motorcycle passenger, Marc Almond, suffered severe injuries," a City of London police spokesman said.

The motorcycle driver, who has not been named, was also hospitalised in the crash.

Almond, 47, formed Soft Cell in Leeds with synthesiser player David Ball in 1980.

They scored their biggest hit with "Tainted Love", a droning, electronic track that was the biggest-selling single of 1981 and a smash on the American charts.

Soft Cell broke up in 1984, the year they released their farewell album, "The Last Night in Sodom".

Bummer. Hope he recovers. Saw him solo at Inland Invasion III last year. Good performer. He deserves a better fate.

It sais he was stable but still in intensive care on the radio this morning.

It was supposedly a motorcycle taxi that he was on the back of.

What's doubtlessly ironic about this is that he just starred in a highway safety film: "Ramming Speed", Starring Marc Almond as "Speed"

I feel so ashamed because 1.) I just insulted a guy who's had a horrible accident 2.) I just ripped that whole movie title off "Mr. Show"
