Felt inspired to post my first message here in months and months,
So gutted about John Peel. Listening to Radio 1 yesterday was painful. I felt yesterday that part of my childhood had died, the evenings I used to sit up listening to his show... *sigh* I'm just lost for words, its just so sad.

How he never got a Knighthood remains a mystery to me.
This sad news still hasn't sunk in for me. Only yesterday I was already reeling from the news bombshell that our Spanish ace Mendieta will miss the rest of Boro's (already ridiculously injury-plagued) season and UEFA run cos of cruciate ligament damage - and then the news that John Peel had gone made me feel even worse......
My dodgy teenage years were partially spent using Peely as a defiant weapon to piss off my school mates, most of whom thought Peter Powell and Steve Wright were the bees knees. Of course, without Peely, I would never have heard about JD/NO, The Pop Group, Wire, Dead Kennedys, Angelic Upstarts, Kraftwerk, The Clash, Billy Bragg, Two Tone, Big Black, Hüsker Dü, Fugazi, the Pixies...... the great man did so much to show us that there was all sorts of other stuff out there worth listening to. But of course no one could play it quite like Peely could. What a truly sad loss. RIP John.

I`d just began tuning into his show the last few months after drifting away from finding the time for a couple of years.So glad i did hear some of his last shows.
What is particularly sad is that apprently his autobiography has been commissioned and was due for release in October next year, but Peely had only completed 45k words out of an expected 100k. Shame.
Nice of Footbal focus to use backing music by Peels bands today. I heard Barbarism Begins at Home and True faith. Nice tribute at the end, especially considering he was such a huge fan of the scousers.
No Autobiography, but we will at least have a Biograhy I should imagine, I know it ain't the same but it should be an insight.
