And we were all so busy with Dubya vs. Kerry, we forgot about this one!

Congratulations to the citizens of Arlington, voting an increase in YOUR sales tax to finance half of Jerry's new stadium.

Of course, what's really sad is that if Arlington had said no, some other municipality would have fallen all over itself to do the same thing. Here in Texas, we can't even figure out how to properly fund our Public School Districts, but we can find a way to give Jerry Jones a handout.

ARLINGTON, Texas - For a team that has lived off winning big on Sundays, the Cowboys scored their biggest victory in their 44-year history on this Tuesday night.

The City of Arlington passed the vote to approve the tax-hike that would allow the city to fund its portion of the $650 million proposal to build the Cowboys a new stadium, which will be located just south of Ameriquest Field - home of the Texas Rangers - and is expected to be completed by 2009.

Public funds to pay for a bunch of millionaires have always been a non-sense.

In fact, that is also a reason why Canada has a lot of trouble to keep their teams... the Expos left because of that, in Washington the WILL use public funds to build a stadium..

In fact, the only team I know that build something without any public help are the Montreal Canadiens... they built it for 600 millions or so (CDN) and sold it for 20...

Speaking of sales tax increases, a few years ago we voted in a 1 cent increase in the sales tax to fund the repair and rebuilding of schools. Bricks and motar only, no books or teachers or paper and pencils. Schools still bankrupt but in new buildings.

We rejected a $1 increase to phone bills to cover 911 calls. Also rejected a merger of city and county governments. They did not allow us to vote on a public funded sports/entertainment center they are building. We will get a new minor league hockey team when completed.

Also on the issue of sales tax increases. We just turned down a 1/4% tax to renavate the two stadiums here and to build a new performing arts center. Not only did we not get that, but now we have a freakin repulican nation now too.
