RETROFORWARD RADIO

Sorry for the little plug on the board.

I wanted to to announce the official launch of our Net Radio station, Retroforward Radio. Some of you guys have been listening the past couple month while we were practicing and gearing up for our launch.

In addition to me, We have other djs that you guys may be familiar with at new order online. There's Kamar Khan. Some of you tune in to his show monday nights on wluw.org. Now you can listen to his Destination Unknown show on both retroforward radio and wluw. Kamar will be djing on retroforward at other time. You may be also familiar with Tracey, Lead singer of Alight. They entered our new order community contest with thier pretty cover of Guilty Partner. Then There is LisaQbot. Regular listeners to kamar's show knows her from the chatroom and also as kamar's subsitute dj. Finallly we have Pedro Marzo. He's a member of NOOL, and post occasionally. We're live sometimes, but most of the time we have a preset playlist. The station is now on 24/7.

Oh yeah, Starting this Monday at 8 pm eastern, I will be premiering my new order show, DNE RADIO. I will be playing nothing but new order related material.

hey, fellas! proud to announce that missus Ishtar and me will be DJing on Retroforward Radio on wednesdays, 4PM to 6PM (ET USA). the show is called Underground and we´ll be playing songs from unknown artists from all over the world. the link between them will be the influence by the most important bands of the 80s. we´ll try to be as diverse as possible playing rock, pop, dance, acoustic or whatever. believe me, there´s a bunch of talented artists over there, waiting to be discovered. we´ll try to be the bridge between them and the Retroforward listeners.

it was a good first experience. i´m sure we´ll be better as shows go by.

btw, we´ll be listening to your show on Friday 4PM (ET US). it´s at the same time as ours, right?

There are tons of things that would be useful on this radio, I guess Kamar is the expert, but I believe having archives (so you can hear back the show you missed from the previous week) and automatically save playlists so you can know what has been played at a specific moment in a show.

That'd be nice... but that's the developper in me, I'd also love to have the stats, so I can know how many people are listening to my show ;)

Obviously I seem to be the only one who'll play mainstream music

How many people will it take to need more bandwidth?

And we should have banners... I'd say I'd put some here, but it'd be nice to have Community banners on there as well ;-) A link on the main page to the forums would be nice too.. I have to find it, I know there were some forums, but it took me a while to find them.

having repetitions is not a bad idea. as the radio has a potentially worldwide audience, some shows become unlistenable for some people because of the different time zones. for ex, my show is on air at 6PM Arg time which means it´s a cool hour for my countrymen to listen getting back from work. at the same time is 4PM ET US and 1PM PST US, which is not the most comfortable hour to listen to the radio. and at the same time it´s 11PM in Greece which means is a great hour to chill out. if we go more to the east we´ll find people sleeping while i´m streaming.

so having a repetition opens the chances for everyone to listen. besides it fills the schedule a lot more!

ah those thing you mentioned are planned nic. In the Phase"2" of the site. It's put on hold at the moment because the accident me and my wife were involved on thanksgiving. That is why i was not able to put up the new Dj profiles. My Mother in law arrived today to help out. so that might free up some time for me :)

Yeah. Me and my wife were hit by a drunk driver on thanksgiving. My wife was seriously hurt. :(

they were actually DRINKING IN THE TRUCK! all four of them and they tried to hide the bottles in a nearby mailbox

By the way Tracey... what happened with the other tribute album, did you ever get the chance to rework your cover?!?! I'd love to hear that!

As for the radio, let's just hope it won't be a victim of its own success, as the ISP is already yelling.

Hey, I tried to listen several times and the only thing it does is opening a file named "listen.pls" in WinAmp and it plays nothing at all.

What's the deal with that? I tried to open the link with Windows Media Player 10, and it doesn't work any better.

Since when does the bitrate influence the capacity of a player to play a file or a streaming file?

Works fine with iTunes.... never tried with Winamp though, I use it only to broadcast.

the reverb was my mistake, sorry for that. i didn´t notice i had it on until i already had recorded most of the "info" tracks. then it was too late to change it.

was it too bad? i mean, does it bother you or you don´t understand what i´m saying (besides i don´t speak well in english, that nobody can help it! :p )?

and about the bitrate. the first show went well, i don´t get why i had problems this time. having a cable 512k connection shouldn´t cause you trouble, isn´t it!

I'm starting to have a problem not repeating songs after 3 shows though... it will be tough not to play any New Order again (which I'm trying to do!, because I'm following Mike's New Order show hehe)

Gee, I have currently 40 gb of mp3s on my hard drive and I'm having a hard time finding stuff to play, that's me...

BTW, the playlist shows an error right now.

To my surprise, I've been able to listen to it from work!! Winamp didn't work at all here, but it works #1 in iTunes...

Go figure...!! and I thought the proxy was the problem, nope...

i´d like to invite all our NOOL friends to recommend us new, underground or unsigned bands you know and you think they´re good. on our show Underground Ishtar and me are playing 25/30 songs every wednesday from this type of bands from all over the world. so if you want to help us by recommending bands you´re more than welcomed!

btw, soon i´ll contact each and everyone involved in Community so they could send us their original material for us to play on our show. so if you are one of the 60 bands who participated on Community expect an email soon!

Well, I tried to DJ, damned Winamp wouldn't work... so I only did half a show since the *ahem* previous owner of the feed had to go after his "shift".

Mea culpa ;) I shall prepare and upload my shows in advance next time, just in case ;)
