Computer problems... again

I can still access NOOL, but that's about it. Every other site I access through AOL freezes up my computer. I can't use Internet Explorer at all. Now, I've done Live Updates and checked for viruses with Norton, and nothing's been found. I've used Ad-Aware and Spyboy Search and Destroy and, although both programs removed spyware, my computer's still slow and I can't use IE at all. Whenever I need to access an important site, other than NOOL, I need to go to the computer lab. So, can anyone help me? Does anyone know what's wrong with my computer again?

My guess is that you still have spyware. Adaware and Spybot have both let me down in terms of what they actually detect and remove. Download a 15 day trial of Giant Anti-Spyware here and see what it picks up. If in doubt of any files being removed (I've seen it pick up a legit file as a keylogger), don't let it delete them. If you're really brave, seek out a program called "hijack this" to help identify any suspicious registry entries.

Could be something other than spyware, but that would be my first guess as it seems to bog down most of the pcs I've had to work on lately. Feel free to e-mail me and I'll see if I can help you pick through the rest of your system to find the trouble.

I did download Giant Antispyware and there was some more spyware on my computer, but I'm still having some problems with IE and accessing most sites through AOL. I just might have to take it into the information technology office at my school for some to look at it.

Another thing I do, and did last night, is to go into Windows folder, right click to arrange icons by date and start checking the properites (right click) of the files. Many bad things will not have proper documentation, unknowns, and will have recent creation dates. Start with exe files. Anything weird you can most safely delete. Sometimes they keep replicating and/or creating new files like a virus. Tgis takes sometime and you mess up your system if you delete something you need but the bad files are pretty easy to spot.

Seriously, you need to get cable or dsl. It's worth the cost. I get basic tv and internet for about $50 a month. If you do make the switch, reformat your pc first--AOL is like a virus. Besides a reformat every now and then is a good thing to do.
