well...a bunny is a rabbit...but over here, it's never called an Easter Rabbit...just an Easter Bunny...

so a bunny is a rabbit... but not the other way around? or do you have two ways to refer the same animal there?

A bunny and a rabbit are the same thing, no matter what. Bunny is just considered a more diminutive way of saying it (like a child would), same as saying "kitty" instead of cat.
