Paul hung himself in the park behind our place in Elwood (a suburb of Melbourne) where he lived for many years. We saw him many times with his beautiful daughters in that park. My partner and i are devasted by his death. His poor girls, our thoughts are with them, and peace be with you "Hessie".

A sad day indeed for Australasian (inc NZ. For those who don't know he was the drummer for Split Enz and Crowded House. I remember fondly the Crowded House farewell gig on 24.11.96 (my birthday) in front of the Sydney Opera House. I also only recently got myself a copy of the best of Crowded House, after saynig all these years that I would.
Hester joined Split Enz in 1983. His first album with The Enz was 'Conflicting Emotions'. He played on the hits 'Message To My Girl' and 'Strait Old Line.
When Split Enz broke up one album later after 'See Ya Round', Hester stayed with singer/songwriter Neil Finn and together with bass player Nick Seymour, was a founding member of Crowded House.
Crowded House was an international success. 'Don't Dream It's Over' became a major hit in the USA.

Hessie was also in Deckchairs Overboard before he joined Split Enz and Largest Living Things after Crowded House, both great bands. Thanks for the CV on Hessie, Ron, i thought that maybe his death had already been mentioned on BCD so didn't bother.
Dang Paul, sorry you had to go that route, enjoyed your music while you were here. I just adore Better Be Home Soon.
