Allied Domecq, the world's second-largest spirits group, today confirmed that it was considering a takeover offer from its smaller French rival Pernod Ricard.

Profits must have soared while Barney was writing that new album.

Due to my then-unhealthy obsession with New Order, double pernod & orange became my "what you drinking?" beverage of choice for about twelve months at one point.

And I fucking hate aniseed.

I used to think that girls spit tasted of Pernod.

It's my favourite when I'm in the mood for it, but not all the time.

I also used to force it down as a sort of tribute. Glad to hear that I'm not the only one!

Now I just wear my Urban Damage t-shirt and bore people in pubs about how good Manchester is.

Hmmmmm. When I was about 18/19, all the girls I knew drank pernod & black, so their spit really did taste of pernod.

Oh, halcyon days.....:love2:

The "Green Fairy" is my favorite drink of all time, you have to try it, all of you.

They used to sell it in a bar in Aberdeen. Proper kerfuffle, with burning sugar cube and everything. Once had a few then broke my finger playing table footie. Escobar, was it called? It's closed now. Absinthe was a fiver a shot though, not cheap. I've had it a few times, in fact. Someone brought a bottle back from Prague once, that was strong stuff.

The French drink Pernod neat for a bad stomach, apparently. A Frenchman told me that last week.

I like it with a load of ice and water on a hot day.

That's the best way to have it.

I should have said "a hot day on a boat in the Caribbean", like last week.

Great to be back...

Rocket, it would be very corny of me to report that I spent much of last week listening to the new album on a sailing boat in the Caribbean.

I did though, and it was ace.

Highlight of my holiday was crashing into a calypso night in a beach bar in Dominica after a day of very heavy drinking. I invented a new way of dancing, which baffled the locals so much that they forgot to beat me up and steal all of my money and wife.

The closest thing to reckless abandon I have experienced in a good while.
