Hollaback Girl !!?@?

Is anyone else surprised (or even annoyed) that Gwen Stefani's single "Hollaback Girl" has been #1 for four weeks on the Billboard Hot 100?

I think the song is okay... some parts seem a little weak (B-A-N-A-N-A-S?) but I like the beat. The video is okay too.

Whatever the case, it is certainly a change from the typical Rap/Hip Hop/R&B streak on the charts that "FEATURES" this person... and another person... and another! Its rare that an artist sings alone nowadays-- and that doesn't exclude New Order

i agree, i think the B-A-N-A-N-A-S part is just idiotic.

That song must have come on about twice an hour at my job today. I'm sick of hearing it.

hmmm hollaback girl eh? shes a hollerin back to the eighties on this track and 90% of her album does so also. as a point of interest,dig out new order peel sessions and listen to "too late",note the similarity in the backing synths on both tracks,an almost identical take in most parts.

"Holla back" is just an urban expression. Usually, it's similar to call back or respond. I don't pay that much attention to the lyrics to hear the s-word that much.

But, about the Bananas part - it's another urban thing(or probably a Philly thing, since Eve wrote it with her.) I don't really know what it means, but it's some kind of call and respond thing. When I was in high school in Philly, some kind of chant with Bananas in it(I don't remember what it was) would start at a pep rally or at various assemblies when a radio station came by (don't remember why, either.)

okay i was immune to this and had no idea about this song until this weekend when my daughter sang the Bananna part non stop for 72 hours!, then as luck (hers, not mine)would have it she stumbled on the video on tv!!!! i hate this song!!!!
