Agree with SLF of mid- to late-80's vintage, should have had them in my list, Burns and the boys always put on a fantastic show, reckon if anything they're underrated.
I go back to 81 with SLF so I can assure you that for some unknown reason over the last 3 years the band have well and truly hit some sparkling live and on CD form. They may be my favourite band but I amn't blinkered and they went slightly ropey near the end of the 90s. 'Guitar and Drum' though sits well with 'Go For It' and live they are fantastic at present.
Minor claim to fame - I played in same pub quiz team as Burns around '86-'89 and they were damn good live back then too. Good hear they're back on form, I think Bruce Foxton's moved on 'though, he's now in the Casbah Club which is him, Watson and Brzezicki from Big Country and Pete Townshend's brother.
Oh good stuff. I'm jealous! Jake's a great guy. Became a bit of a role model for me in younger days. Younger days? Still is.
Bruce is still in the band. He's a fair diehard SLF member now. Just moonlighting with the Casbah Club inbetween SLF tours and what have you. Him and Jake are pretty much 50/50 now on the rights to assorted SLF things and Bruce runs the business side more or less. They go way back to Jam/SLF days and Bruce was on the demos of Jake's first post Feb 83 split SLF songs.
Anyway, good to know there are other SLF fans around. I never seem to bump into them online, just at the gigs. Literally.
And to make you a little more jealous, the captain of that quiz team was Gordon Ogilvie - great bloke, he's the journo who discovered SLF and who also co-wrote Ulster, Device and most of the early stuff etc. So when I read a recent interview with Burns where he says he lost touch with Gordon when they split in '83, well, frankly, that's boll***s.
