Weathermen/women...Full of It?

This morning, the local weather forecast (as well as the Weather Channel) was calling for heavy thunderstorms all day, or at least rain showers. And sure, it did rain...for about twenty minutes. Then it became sunny and warm, not a cloud in sight

Thus my wondering: are meterologists full of shit, or what? :p

I mean, if my job was basically to say "it's gonna be one thing" and it's the complete opposite, I'd be out on my ass in a week

What exactly does a meterologists do? I'm sure there's classes they have to take, they have to be good at math. But a lot of it's just plain dumb luck (or, like today, a lack thereof). Hell, I could be a "meterologist" if all I did was hang up different varieties of weather possibilities on a dart board and aim. "Tonight, expect heavy rain, tornado-like winds, and the Rapture" :evil4:

Anyway, just wanted to vent (don't get me wrong, I love the fact that it didn't rain today. made my job easier)

Too many variables, too primative technology. Perhaps if we crucified a few of the most inaccurate ones the remaining would improve their skills.

Well, I suppose one can never be certain of what every component of a weather system might do, so I'll let 'em slide a bit on that factor.

It was nice, very nice, to see Jackie Johnson as a weatherperson on LA television at the beginning of this month.....

was it in Russia they fined the channel / production company if they got their weather forecast was wrong? Quita a good idea - the BBC weather forecasters wouldn't be so smug if that was the case here...

the incidents reported in this message are real, the names have been changed but the affiliates remain the same:

I was watching the news (Q13) 2 nights ago after a brutally hot 91 degree day in Seattle when the weatherman rightly noted that today was "Nice". He followed that statement with, "Tomorrow we'll be back to pleasant where we'll stay for the rest of the week". Uh. So you're telling me it was Nice today but tomorrow it's going to be Pleasant. How should i cope with the change in weather?
