Manchester's own Mr. Boyle, New Order fan, deserves a quickie poll of his own.
I'm only including as choices feature films that had some sort of wide release or easy availability, so none of his early TV movies or his 3 shorter movies shown at film festivals.
I used to live around the corner from where they filmed alot of Shallow Grave and anything Christopher Eccleston does interests me (yes, even Dr. Who) but I had to vote for Trainspotting. However the bit in SG where McGregor's character gets a beating in the toilets once he's living the 'high life' is really appropriate regarding the snobbishness that inhabits this city. Also the bit where Eccleston is in the accountancy firm discussing his prospects. There's alot of that *cough* Standard Life *cough* in this city.
Without a doubt Trainspotting is the best film of my generation. I could identify with most of the ideas being challenged (aside from the smack addiction naturally!) from fancying a bird who you think is the same age as you but turns out to be a schoolgirl, to the frankly historic speech regarding "being Scottish". Even Spud's interview technique is also something I keep in mind for future interviews "Mah pleasure in other people's leisure" :D
Funny, gritty, human... a proper and believable statement on the highs and lows of drug abuse. People, particularly judgemental ones, do forget addicts do it for a reason albiet an ultimately useless one. Trainspotting was never overrated because it was always good enough to back up what it had to say. The two soundtrack CDs were also brilliant from start to finish including both New Order (Temptation) and Joy Division (Atmosphere) songs. I've often been walking down Princes Street as the actors were fleeing down in the opening sequence and changed my iPod to Lust For Life... you do feel like going for a jog :D
Pity Boyle hasn't done alot of good stuff since. The Beach wasn't my cup of tea at all, but the OST rocked as an overall LP, not just for Brutal which I felt was just "OK".

I saw A Life Less Ordinary in the theaters, but damn if I can recall much about it now. I personally enjoy 28 Days, but voted for Trainspotting, my brother said he walked of the cinema cause he couuldn't handle the withdrawal sequence with the baby on the ceiling.
I think he'll always be remembered best for Trainspotting, but I had to vote for 28 Days Later since it's easily one of the smartest horror flicks in years and the one that jumpstarted the resurgence of interest in zombie movies (and 1970's horror in general).
Trainspotting I guess... however I must say I'm one of the few that really enjoyed The Beach.
There is one part in that movie which is boring is when Leonardo Di Caprio starts to go crazy, it's boooooooring... but other than that, I believe it does the job.
trainspotting, without a doubt. although 28 days later and shallow grave were both excellent films, especially the former.
the beach was crap and did no justice to the book, which i devoured in two days.

I can't say I've managed to sit all the way through Trainspotting...
Millions was filmed on our estate but we were told it was going to be a TV movie.
I think Trainspotting has some wonderful observations of youth culture and is a quality film

Quite a statement from someone who praises a gory zombie movie. 
anyone remember the building the father and daughter lived in in 28 days later (you first see it when they're signaling from the window)? i used to live in that building: balfron tower in E14!

probably. i certainly did a lot of shopping at the local somerfield's!
