Am I the only Brit/Londoner desperately hoping Paris wins the Olympic race?
I really really don't want to be paying for this festival of pharmacuticals, corruption, environmental damage, body-fascism, and the obsessive-compulsive pursuit of the utterly trivial for the next 50 years through my council tax.
If this money must be spent, better by far to spend it on exercise facilities of use to ordinary people (like cycle lanes and open spaces for kids to knock a football about), rather than pandering to these mad elite athletes who think it actually matters if someone can run 100m 1/100th of second faster than someone else. The fact that the bid includes a plan for tarmacing over Sunday league football pitches to provide car parking for the athletes and press says it all really (if they are so damn keen on fitness why can't they walk to the venues?).
The French deserve to have this monstrosity inflicted on them anyway, it would serve 'em right for trying to scrap our EU budget rebate (they can have our rebate over my dead body...er...well over Blair's dead body anyway...which might not be a bad exchange come to think of it)
So come on Parisians, win that bid!
PS has Chirac gone completely loopy? He seems to be trying to start a war with the UK just to distract attention from the complete failure of his presidency. I just hope he doesn't damage Paris's bid.
