He took over the lead vocal duties for Genesis in 1975, after Peter Gabriel left for a solo career. In 1980, he released his own solo album, and began a lucrative career as a pop artist at the height of the Reagan Era. He may be best remembered for "Against All Odds", "Susudio", and other hits of that era. :spin:

In the early Nineties, he reconvened with his former bandmates to release "I Can't Dance" and a new Genesis album. In the late Nineties, Phil also gained new income as a soundtrack artist for several Disney films. :music:

Lately he's been in something of a creative slump; with little Disney work coming his way and his leaving his wife for the children's nanny, he has struggled to maintain his recording career. Something tells me he will return to the top of the charts soon enough :thumb:

now for the truth, spike.

phil used to be in the macclesfield-based band marion, which experienced some minor success in the UK in the 1990s. they were quite influenced by JD, which is, perhaps, why some people on this board seem to dislike him as that seems to be a big no-no for some folks (as per the bravery, the killers, etc.), but who knows.

anyhoo, i've no idea how he hooked up with the NO lads. perhaps they knew each other from the local scene? let someone else can take it from here.

Phil was a very popular NBA player (mostly with the Knicks) who made a successful transition to the courtside as a coach. His nine wins (seven with the Chicago Bulls, three with the Los Angeles Lakers) make him tied with Red Auerbach as the coach with the most championship rings in NBA history.

Unfortunately, he ran afoul of Kobe Bryant, the talented but troubled co-headliner of the Laker dynasty (along with big man Shaquille O'Neal), and the 2003-2004 season was one fraught with tension due to Bryant's off-the-court problems. Previously authoring a self-help book entitled Zen Hoops, Phil decided to document his last season with the Lakers after it was made official that he was leaving the post following the 2004 championship series. Despite a strong showing in Game 2, the Lakers fell to the upstart Detroit Pistons in five games, and Phil took his leave of the organization.

When Phil's book The Last Season came out, he was seen by many as a pariah. However, following the Lakers' inability to make to the finals this year, Phil triumphantly returned to coach the Lakers, promising to put his problems with Bryant aside and focus on rebuilding the team, an unenviable task given the worn nature of his multi-million veterans and the relative inability to trade for younger talent without breaking over the salary cap.

I hope I've been helpful in answering your question, Spike :thumb:

Phil's a bald guy added to the NO line up. He plays keys and guitar and wears a wig to make sure no one notices that it's not Gillian up on stage.
