Who's into Ultravox?

I mean the really early albums. Punkish albums?

I really love them. They were ace afterwards too, up to Vieanna.

I was too young to really know that early stuff. But I like them... I heard Midge Ure's voice was today like the voice of Joe Cocker. Ure played not far from here on a city festival (for free), unfortunately I heard of that too late...

Always wanted to hear their 1977-79 stuff. I know it's way too different. I hope it was not a punk version of Yes.

I have mostly the Ure-era albums: Vienna, Quadrat, Lament and Dancing With Tears In My Eyes.

Who likes Alphaville? I'm not a big O fan but there's a plenty of their work I admire.

They're OK. I never was a fan of them. But I think they're underrated...

Rage In Eden is my fave. Death in the Afternoon....

Ultravox is good! Reap The Wild Wind (extended) is my fave from them. Dancing With Tears In My Eyes, Vienna and some of Midge's solo work are all that I remember off hand. They were a little before my time, but nothing wrong with that!

As for Alphaville... excellent band!! Forever Young has to be one of my favorite 80s songs (excluding any NO) of all times. I think the lead singer, Marion Gold, (or some bandmember from Alphaville) did a cover of Ceremony on one of the NO tribute albums.

I bought Ultravox!, with The Wild, The Beautiful and the Damned, My Sex, etc., when it came out. Never bought anything else by them.

...and Dancing with Tears in my eyes was kinda their LWTUA...

But for strange origin albums - what about the Human League?

REPRODUCTION was incredibly experimental - 1979 as well, I think, very much a whiff of the stuff that NO started out with...

I prefer the Foxx-era, though I don't own much by that version. Slow Motion and Hiroshima Mon Amour are nice, atmospheric songs.

Loved all the realy Ultravox! stuff and some of the Midge Ure stuff is good too. Liked Vienna and Rage in Eden but not much after that.

ultravox wasn't big here. just "dancing tears/eyes" and "vienna" were heard here.

I never realy cared for them much in their midge ure incarnation but when i was at uni a mate insisted that i listen to the early stuff and i've got to say i was quite impressed, we listened to quite a lot of it then. I haven't realy thought about it all these years since but now it's mentioned yeah ,i wouldn't mind hearing the john foxx stuff again, might have to invest in some.

I took the missus to see the Human League in concert a year or so ago. john Foxx was the support act. He was very impressive. Did quite a bit of his back catalogue including Ultravox! unbers like My Sex.

Love Ultravox stuff up to and including Vienna, not so keen after that. Connie Plank, Steve Lillywhite and Brian Eno did all their early production, all fantastic choices imo. John Foxx's first two solo albums are excellent too and of course Visage included several U-Voxers. Favourite tracks from these guys are probably Young Savage, Quiet Men, Alles Klar and Mr X (U'Vox), Underpass and Mr No (Foxx) and Fade To Grey and Frequency 7 (Visage). A seminal post punk and synth pop group.
