Here's hoping that the Space Shuttle makes it, otherwise I'll be seeing a fireball in a just over an hour. Apparently us Aussies should get a good look at the shuttle at about 17.50 local time somewhere is the SW sky.

Fingers crossed.

Landing has been delayed by a day due to dodgy 'cloud'

Interesting to see what the astronauts think about the visual screw ups we're making with environment.

In a couple of hundred years Earth will be like Mars.

Well, that would explain why it's so important to develop the technology to live in the Martian environment.

Or to switch from burning fossil fuels to renewable energy sources... not that it's ever gonna happen....

Biodiesel (B100-- 100% biodiesel) in your car. It's still emitting carbon, but it's not mined carbon (fossil fuels), so there's no net increase in atmospheric carbon.

Make sure you email Mr. Bush about this one; I hear he's all for technologisation of carbon emission reduction.

I think he may get somewhat sidetracked by his Texan drinking buddies...

We'll say what happens tonight. I'm not sure yet if it will cross Australia this time.

Tip to NASA; seriously with all the advances in technology you are still using heat tiles. I don't know exactly what's available, but I'm sure a one-pice casting of something at least for the nose cone would do the trick.

Tip to NASA:

Let it burn. Maybe then the space program will be grounded for decades and its funding eliminated. The space program is a total fucking waste of time. If some private corporations want to sponsor some rockets to shoot cable TV satellites into orbit, fine with me--but stop wasting billions in government and taxpayer money on a bunch of "research" into outer space when that money could be put to so much better use by cleaning up our current planet and immediately developing alternative means of transportation (not like Bush's stupid energy bill to continue subsidizing the oil companies when said companies need to get their asses in gear to develop some fully oil-independent cars before the worldwide crude tap goes dry in 50 years, just so they can rape us with the switch to those cars).

There is not one single drop of sense in trying to understand the make-up of the universe or (god-forbid, you cokehead thug of a president) trying to inhabit other worlds when our own planet is dying rapidly under our feet. Not much use in fancy knowledge or expensive shiny flying things when we're all dead from pollution.

And be sure to use PLENTY of scotch tape when you stick that one-piece casting on.

only about the same amount they currently use.

Time to ditch that '74 Ford. Been a piece of shit since day 1. Tiles always falling off even on the first flight. Cheaper, safe and more benefits from unpersoned space probes.

Then again I need to be on the next shuttle flight to test zero G "money shots" on a pair of 38 EEs. This is something that will benefit every person on Earth.

Very short-sighted...This planet will die anyway, and when it does the human race and everything ever, will be wiped from history..Do you want that?We need the space program, simple as...Rome was'nt built in a day,and earth exit will be required one day,so lets hope Discovery makes it home safe...And more money gets channeled into space exploration, and speed..Speed is the key, gotta find a faster way of covering massive distances

And what about gravitons?

Why have heat shield tiles when they should be developing antigraviton thingymijigs...

A few years ago they created a device that could levitate a frog (i know it sounds insane - but i'm serious!).

Don't know why this technology is being ignored; maybe 'coz it's another retro boot of some Roswell kit?

It seems completely unrealistic to me for the US to try making other planets livable when we could just as easily make our own existing planet much more livable instead. It's global capitalism that is killing the world and we can limit its environmental impact. Hypothetically, I'd LOVE to see how people are chosen to be shipped to this new science-fiction world...lots of WASPs, I can assure you. Handpicking a new white christian civilization is just the sort of thing our current American government gets a boner over.

How can they plan to send people to Mars if they don't even (or hardly) get them through our atmosphere?

These are the baby steps...Remember it was'nt too long ago the human race was on foot,we still have massive potential, plus the practical matter of survival justify all space exploration, maybe not in our lifetime but someday this planet is going to be fucked all ends up, and gone..without a trace of the remarkable Human Race:shades:

So what do we do? pull the plug on the space program,or persue the muthafuka:crazy:
