Its snowing in Canberra yuck

We don't often get snow here. So this is abit of a novely. A very cold novelty. I hope its still nice and warm where you are. This winter crap is getting old.

i really miss snow. growing up in a small colorado mountain town eerily rreminiscent of south park (in the winter we all looked like kenny) i'm used to snowstorms--in the middle of summer, even! i had a bitchin' sled, complete with brakes so i could turn this way and that. we lived on an acre of land that was on a ridiculously steep angle and it made for some excellent sledding--although my cat did not appreciate being placed on the sled and sent down the hill for my sick amusement. in colorado you usually don't get the sphincter-imploding cold weather that the northeast or eastern canada gets because of colorado's dry climate, thank god. i learned what true, ass-clenching cold was when i went to boarding school in massachusetts. but then we just stole trays from the dining hall and used them as makeshift sleds. good times.

in london and st. andrews we almost never got snow, and if we did it melted almost immediately. in florida...i don't even have to explain that one for you. if it drops below 50F we are officially in an emergency situation and news anchors tell us how to keep warm. sissies.

living in new york during snow season was a nightmare; not because of the snow but because of the ice. the cars and pedestrians would make quick work of the snow, but if there was a freeze--forget it. for two years i lived on claremont avenue, which ran parallel along a steep hill between broadway and riverside drive. in order to get to campus one would have to climb 116th street. i often made it to the coffee and bagel stand before sliding right back down to the corner again. they cancelled classes several times because it was taking people up to half an hour to get from point A to point B when it would normally take 5-10 minutes. if you're planning on climbing everest, i suggest practicing on an icy day in the morningside heights/harlem region of new york first.

It snowed in much of Southen Australia yesterday. The biggest cold snap in like 20 years.

Heck this morning there was still snow in my garden. We'll soon get back to more normal winter weather. Nice sunny days with upto 12- 14 degrees C. and night minimus of -2 to - 4.

Having said that Canberra is is the coldest Capital city in Australia in winter. None of the others get frost as they are all near the sea. Their daytime winter temps are a bit warmer as well.

Crap didn't we move from Germany to get away from snow.

Global climate change. Comes from burning stored carbon, i.e., the internal combustion engine. Unless you're a Republican. In that case, global climate change doesn't exist, but the Earth was created 5000 years ago.

Though it's summer here I wait for snow any day... Shitty 15-17 C and rain without ending... That's ridiculous...

Its about 95 degrees(maybe 30c?) here in new york city. I love the hot weather but its tough when you have a hangover. Feels as if im melting.

I grew up in Buffalo, ny which could be considered the snow capital of the states. I think this is why i love hot weather.

I'm going in holidays the next week… your thread (despite we're really not in the same part of the world) make me wonder about how it's going to be !

For the moment the weather in France is just fine : warm (but not to much). We're supposed to live in a tempered country, but most of the time it's just mean "awful"… whatever the weatherman say. :(

Dont worry wont be long now..sweltering 40 degs and bush fires just round the corner. Its the Bunyips I feel sorry for, one minute theyre freezing their knackers off the next theyre mystic BBQ`d charcoal.

Anyway the last few days have been much better. Frosty monings, and nice clear days with temps in the teens.
