Hilary Duff (AKA, Lizzie McGuire)

Thumbing through an issue of "Jane" trying to spot some hot models, I noticed an article devoted to Hilary Duff article titled, "And yes, she likes The Smiths..."

Very short description of her extent of being a fan, but I thought it was interesting that she likes them. The weird thing is...I don't mind at all...I know the scum that hang out at www.morrissey-solo.com would be going crazy about that, but it doesn't bother me.

I am just glad that one of the greatest bands of all time still seems to find generation after generation and they are all realizing how important they were.

On the other hand, it has become a little trendy to be into the "new wave" scene and some people just like the glamour of it all...I have to admit, "Joy Division's" name has been dropped quite a bit lately as being a main influence for a lot of bands out there...oh well...it is always a good thing, I guess??

Lata, playa!

You were reading "Jane" because it was sent...to your house, because you're a subscriber! A-hahahaha!

The Smiths are a great band, but anyone currently in the teen pop music scene can't be trusted to know them from a hole in the ground. I could be wrong, but I think Ms. Duff is drinking a bit too much of her own brand of beer :p

I love that short of her on RobotChicken having her play Anne Frank.

That's about as relevant as Ashlee Simpson saying she likes the Smiths. Perhaps if Hillary Duff had some singing talent, her appreciation of the Smiths might be of some significance, but who cares?

I'm afraid you're right, but even so, I think it's a great thing that there are still some teenagers who like bands like the Smiths, even if they don't really understand what they stand for. I mean, most of them are usually fans of Britney Spears!

I remember reading in NME that she was seen getting on down to Joy Division on a New York dancefloor.

For her next project, she is set to record an entire album of New Order songs, featuring such classics as Bizarre Love Triangle, Shell Shock & Crystal. As usual, iTunes will have an exclusive bonus track.

I really hope you're joking. She's a terrible singer - even worse than Britney Spears. She'd butcher all of New Order's songs.

Aside from the 'main' subject, but still on the topic i guess, i always LOVED (and still is !) THE SMITHS ! between '86 - '89, there was more NEWorder and The Smiths than, possibly, anything else in my records collection. Another legends from the North.

I have had to physically run away from my friend who tried to make me watch her film 'Raise your Voice' - I refuse to believe it would make me cry as she insisted it would. Its all very well for her to say she likes the Smiths - get her to name and album and a few singles and shed probably be stumped. Or say something like ... 'Oh, its just the vibe, you know, the image...':banghead: :spit:

I'll have you know that RAISE YOUR VOICE is widely considered the greatest American film since Woody Allen's CRIMES & MISDEMEANORS.

There's a picture of Fred Durst somewhere wearing a Smiths shirt. hahah

And on a slightly related note, one of Britney Spears buying The Bends by Radiohead
