today i was watching Garbage´s video "Run Baby Run" and i got amazed how they practically ripped off NO trademark´s basslines. so i thought about all those songs somewhere that are NO-like. help me out! i have a bad memory for this!

Monaco :D

Looking at the avatar above reminded me that some SoM songs (Lucretia my reflection) had a very similar bassline, too.

Smashing Pumpkins - 1979

And many others...

Nah. Lucretia has more of a robotic sound. Hooky's basslines are melodic. Think of him as the Jimmy Page of bass players.

Yeah, not NO, but I'm sure sounds like some JD songs. Everytime I hear LMF I think of Transmission ans SLC.

I think the likes of 'Marian' 'Rock and a Hard Place' etc sound like JD, but Lucretia I definetly can't hear JD. I think it's a bit too stiff to be JD.

what was that tune that was identical to True Faith back in late 80s? "A Different Story" or something... i can´t remember the band´s name though

On the forthcoming Six by Seven Album is a track called "Nowhere to go but home" (I got it on a music-magazin CD). If I didn't know it better I would say it's 100% Hooky playing bass there. But they did the record completely without bass...

although is not exactly a ripoff The Lightning Seeds-Pure always remind me of NO. maybe because of the musical structure and some guitar touches

oh, yeah. i forgot about that one. for some reason i´ve always find it similar to 1963 more than Temptation, the one they decided to mix with Star Guitar. 1963´s phrases fit perfectly on that structure.

The Pet Shop Boys' "Too Many People" sounds New Order-ish to me.

Too many Blue Monday style songs to even begin with...

-Don't forget Kon Kan "I Beg Your Pardon (I Never Promised You a Rose Garden)" and Cause and Effect "You think you know her"... blatant ripoffs...

-Also:The Lightning Seeds (Pure and Simple)as mentioned earlier- exactly like Love Vigilantes... an extraordinary rip...

You all forget the obvious:

Furniture - Brilliant Mind.

So heavily JD it could almost be Ceremony, right down to Hooky not playing bass on it and Mr Morris not drumming on it.

-And i think there was something by The Ocean Blue... Can't remember which it was...
