Hermit, DC? Could you not have chosen a gentler word?

In fact, should DC reveal himself?

Hermits are cool, Pats.

Look at Obi-Wan Kenobi.

I voted yes, but maybe the fun would be gone if i knew. Reading through his numerous posts, he doesnt come close to revealing any personal emotions. Everything is spoken in the matter of fact way.

Perhaps, he is a celebrity?

Ben Kenobi was the hermit...

Obi-wan was the one who ran around the galaxy on foolish missions!!!

And let Patlers keep his air of mystery!!!

I'm not Patrick Duffy. Whoever he is.

No one at NOOL has ever met me.

I like to think of him as a mysterious man. For some strange reason I keep imagining him as a very pale and rather tall person. Beautiful manners!

Perhaps you're hermit-like as far as your presence on these boards goes. In that no one has ever met you, despite your longevity here. I apologise if it connotated negatively Pats, it certainly was intended to be light-hearted.

I doubt one can perform your line of work without consistent levels of human interaction. Oops, did I say too much.

I voted for him to remain mysterious.Although i was calling for him to reveal himself just a few days ago.But ive changed my mind.Mysterious it should stay.Thats how he wants it and we should respect his wishes.

And i`d like to add here that i think his politeness and charm are delightful. He even said to me "give your mum our best wishes" on Sunday.

For me, Patrick can stay "invisible". It's good that some here retain a bit of mystery about themselves, I can understand why some go for that. Besides, he's been here longer than me, and his threads with Huntsman were one of the things that kept me coming back; short, witty and always written in a calm, collected manner. In fact, I'm trying to remember now if Patrick has ever used a "smiley" in any of his posts?

has he ever used an exclamation point in one of his posts?

Tricky to do, but I solicited one from him quite recently.

The guilty pleasure of conversing with Pats is seeing if you can actually work him into a state of sheer frenzy, to the point where he'll do something radical like use an exclamation point.

I've also seen a spelling mistake or two but again, they're collectors' items.

As outrageous as it may sound, I've also witnessed a smilie in the past. But I think it was just an experimental phase for him. Think he's of the school that believes using a smilie is a bit of a cop-out, why use one when you can get creative with words? Moreover, not using one helps to perpetuate a sense of ambiguity in his thoughts. eg. 'Is Pats being ironic here or does he really believe this stuff?' It all adds to his enigma. Which he quite enjoys, I expect.

A 'no' vote from me, even though I'm just as curious as everyone else. Why ruin the illusion? It would be like reading a book, let's say 'Patriot Games' and then years after watch the film and say - that's not right, that's not how I imagined him to be.

As DC noted, I have occasionally ventured into the world of smilies, sometimes going so far as to post a reply containing nothing else.

But in general, I do try to avoid them.

Thanks again for your generous comments.

I heard that number one was something about a river greenbelt but I couldn't get quite so excited about that one. Perhaps you can sell it to us.

DC, you need to get a job here with the Chamber of Commerce or the Visitor's Bureau. The greenbelt follows along the Boise river for about 15 miles. If you like to run, bike, or roller blade and not have to dodge cars in the process then it's the thing for you.

No real gimmicks to attract visitors. The college football team's field is blue turf. Maybe that rings a bell with some sports fans out there. I'll leave the rest of the surprises for those who want to see the city for themselves.

I had. One of the many good things about the city was the seductive voice of subway announcements. You know the one that says "Doors closing". Sounds like a nice black woman in her 30's. Very siren-like, if you excuse the pun.

No offense would be taken, and if it was then they are shallow people who should be more open minded to the eating preferences of visitors. The eastern part of the state is where the bulk of potato growing takes place, so you're likely safe with regard to that around here.

However, if you did not order a sugar beet or some corn...

Nothing at all like soapy tit wank.

A soapy tit wank may only be enjoyed by a mixed-sex couple.

Buggery permits different combinations, certainly not a uniquely gay pastime.

Plus I've learned so much about Boise that I can't wait to go.

Glad to have let you in on some things, DC. In fact, it's time for me to go for a run on the greenbelt.

Sleep well...

It may have turned out to be a bit of an old fashioned waffler of a thread but there were some good moments.

Plus I've learned so much about Boise that I can't wait to go. I'm skipping over Washington now and heading straight for the Spinning Spud / Turning Tater or whatever LE's restaurant is called. Goodnight.

Good night, DC. Thanks again for making this all possible.

Have a good time in Idaho. Eat a few potatoes for me.

I was about to get a little testy myself then when I thought it was being implied that I was some sort of lowly worm type.

But then I recognised my hat.

Or was that just a happy coincidence?
