Patrick enjoys perpetuating his own enigma on these boards. Is it time he coughed up a photo?

Tricky to do, but I solicited one from him quite recently.

The guilty pleasure of conversing with Pats is seeing if you can actually work him into a state of sheer frenzy, to the point where he'll do something radical like use an exclamation point.

I've also seen a spelling mistake or two but again, they're collectors' items.

As outrageous as it may sound, I've also witnessed a smilie in the past. But I think it was just an experimental phase for him. Think he's of the school that believes using a smilie is a bit of a cop-out, why use one when you can get creative with words? Moreover, not using one helps to perpetuate a sense of ambiguity in his thoughts. eg. 'Is Pats being ironic here or does he really believe this stuff?' It all adds to his enigma. Which he quite enjoys, I expect.

Smilies get ugly pretty quickly too.

Except for the old smoking pimp of course.

Yes indeed! What a shock!

Double exclamation?

Hot damn Blue Order, slip that one into a dust jacket and whack it up on eBay. There's your retirement fund.

A 'no' vote from me, even though I'm just as curious as everyone else. Why ruin the illusion? It would be like reading a book, let's say 'Patriot Games' and then years after watch the film and say - that's not right, that's not how I imagined him to be.

You're really stuck on this idea of Pats as a Harrison Ford-type figure aren't you?

Not sure how accurate the resemblance is but I've heard he's quite handy with a whip.

I think smilies are below him.And good on im for that!

As DC noted, I have occasionally ventured into the world of smilies, sometimes going so far as to post a reply containing nothing else.

But in general, I do try to avoid them.

Thanks again for your generous comments.

Have you kept track of the number of times you've managed to work me into a frenzy, DC?

Glad to see you appear to have recovered from your disappointment at my failure to deliver an appropriate bit of oratory at the 5000 post mark.

Only about 3-4 times I think.

I've seen H pull it off too on occasion too. You have to be quite astute to detect it. It's all about subtleties with you.

A personal favourite was the time you were blowing exasperation out of your ears trying to solicit my preferred pizza topping.

Yes, as I recall you wouldn't even admit that your mule liked pizza.

Ah, those were the days.

They were the best of times, they were the worst of times.

Think that conversation might've even set the wheels in motion that eventually drove Hunter out of town.

I like the idea of him being a kind of mysterous figure on here, so I don't think he should reveal himself. It'd make things a lot less interesting.

It's a tight vote, isn't it Pats? Hope it doesn't go down to re-counting chads in Florida.

Your countrymen certainly seem to be rallying to your cause.

I think it's clear, DC, that the votes for mystery are not geographically limited.

Does this make you a true international man of mystery?

A man of mystery does not answer such questions.

So by not answering, you're effectively saying yes?

I hope you have better teeth than the last chap.

It wasn't not an answer, just a comment.

OK. So will you answer the question?

Are you an international man of mystery?

Yes or no will do.

I can't recall.

Don't go quoting Reagan on me, P.

Just answer.
