I bring this up because flirting is something that's basically required in order to get a lady (or man, depending on your orientation...and if you're into animals or humans), but some people are better at it than others.

I'd like to think I'm "Barry White Smooth" :hat: , but fear I'm more "Corey Haim Bad" :nervous: when I try too hard. I do better when I'm not even aware that I'm "making my moves", I guess. It's really fun to flirt with someone who flirts back, I've noticed.

Anyway, what's your personal rating? Any advice for those who might not be so successful? Got any free food? I'm hungry...:p:

Is Barry White smooth better than Very good, or slightly not as smooth as very good? :confused2:

So what does Corey Haim do when he flirts (I can imagine Barry White starting out with a deep "Baby,...")?

That, or one V-E-R-Y long post.

I know I'm going to sound like a socially-incompetent moron, but what is flirting? I've never understood what it is. I've asked friends about what it is and they just say it's talking to the opposite sex, but why isn't it just called "talking"?

Why, man, you're advocating...drug use!!!!

And my idol Mr. T says "I pity the fool that needs drugs to post on message boards all night!"

So no, I won't be taking your suggestion, mister. Don't buy drugs, kids...become famous, and they give them to you for free! :evil4:

Well, Blue Eyed Boy raises an interesting question...

Is there one below Corey Haim?

I think "flirting" is technically "talking with the express purpose of getting the other person naked and in your bed as soon as possible"....:faint:

Or it could just be "trying to show interest by conversation". I get confused

Talking is: You're in the market at the deli counter and you ask the attractive stranger next to you if they're waiting in line. Then you step up to the counter, pay for your purchase, and leave.

Flirting is: You're in the market at the deli counter and you ask the attractive stranger next to you if they know what wine would go with the cheese you're thinking about buying. And smiling. And eye contact. And looking away. And paying a compliment in a clever, not too obvious way.

Barry White: You're in the market at the deli counter and you say to the attractive stranger next to you "I've heard people say too much of anything's not good for you, baby." Then you ask if you've gotten too much ham (you ordered a full pig), and indicate that if she is willing, the stranger can come back to your apartment and help you finish it before it spoils. Then you undo the silk robe you were wearing all this time and tell her that she's "the first, the last, my everything". That pretty much seals the deal :shades:

Once in the EIGHTIES, I was at a club with some friends, wearing my EIGHTIES leopard print tie, when a HOT black chick approached me and said "That's a nice tie. Maybe you could tie me up sometime."

THAT'S flirting.

I turned into Corey Haim. :faint:

It's the difference between being relaxed and having fun with it, and being wound up because you're nervous about failure/success.

I'm not allowed to flirt anymore, am I?

Anyway. I was really good at flirting when I was younger. Or I might got all the girls thanks to my look, I don't know.

I like to flirt a bit. It's nice to see if girls are still intrested in you, even when you are 38.

I would never cheat on my wife, but I love the feeling of knowing, that a girl/female so much wants me to follow her home.

Does this mean I'm bad?

My way of talking tends to sound a bit flirty by nature, just because I find it easy to have a lighthearted chat with most people. Especially after a few drinks!

But when there's a guy I like I tend to go quiet as a mouse and turn bright red when I talk with him. Usually I end up avoiding him because of it.

Shyness is nice But shyness can stop you From doing all the things in life you'd like to

And how many people did we make suffer by telling them we did not feel the same about them ?

when i was in high school if i fancied someone i wouldn't speak to them. ever. i was scared shitless of rejection or sounding stupid.

when i went to my five-year high school reunion i saw christian lentz, the fire of my loins for 3 long years. i went up and talked to him, asked him how his sister was (we were friends--but i still never spoke to her brother in school) and such. then i realized how shy he was and that he was not in fact zeus on mount olympus, but just a kid from westerly, RI. i was terrified of him! those three years wasted....

I guess I'm still a bit too shy to just go up to a girl and start yabbering on. I usually try for a bit of eye contact first. Being a bit short sighted it just looks like I'm staring at them, so that doesn't really work either. Every now and again a girl will just come up to me however. Unfortunately most of those are bushpigs.

Yeah, I figured out a while back that "the staring method" is not a great way to make contact. And nevermind all the "Unsolved Mysteries" and "Sightings"-type shows that made a living on psychic powers, I have yet to be able to flirt via telecommunication or ESP with a girl. The bad thing is getting started. Then it can get good if you hit it off

My big problem is knowing when to just flirt around and when to go ahead and "make a move". Usually I wait too long, trying to get into position as a "friend", and end up being such a good friend that they can't possibly consider dating me. :banghead:

But I do have countless hot friends...I got that going for me

Women put men in the "friend box" or the "boyfriend box" at the very beginning of getting to know them. If you go for being a friend first, guess which box they're going to put you in? And once you're in that box, you ain't going in the other box.

Now, about those hot friends of yours... :smoking:

My flirting ability has significantly improved for a few years. I was a complete loser when I was young(er) (I'm 33), but now I've found self-confidence and I like to play the flirting game. Recently, a girl I really like told me that she had thought of inviting me in her bed but that she didn't cos I'm a married man. I must admit that this is also the reason that makes me stay at flirt level: I don't feel like cheating.

Roguish eye contact is a cool way of flirting while having an apparently trivial conversation with someone. I tested it again not later than this morning. :thumb:

I can't go anywhere in this city without some woman making rogueish eye contact. Even when they're with some guy. Especially when they're with some guy.

Now, actually going out on a date, that's another story.

I just want to get some words on "flirting etiquette" from anyone who cares to respond. Here's the situation: There is a girl that I like that (because at Ingles, you actually have to work and can't go up front and chat to the cashiers as much) I've only flirted with a couple of times. I have it from a reputable source that she has a boyfriend...but I'm still thinking of asking her out just for the hell of it (as a "oh, by the way I like you" sort of move). At any rate, I certainly don't plan on stopping the nice flirting we have going (she at least seems to like talking to me, I know that for certain).

So my question is....all's fair in love and war, right? I'm not going to be brought up on charges of "continued flirting with a non-single woman whom I find attractive", am I? Can it be that the Yankees may actually win the AL East? Will I ever start watching "Lost" after a year of not buying into the hype?

Any answers to the following would be appreciated :D

If she's not married, then she's still single.

I've dated women who had a steady boyfriend. One of them, we went to bed before our first date. Usually happens when the boyfriend is a jerk/ is away/ is a jerk who is away/ is cheating on her/ is somebody she's keeping around while she finds someone better.

Forget all the intrigue of the reputable source. Ask her out. If she can't accept, for whatever reason, she'll decline. If she's interested, for whatever reason, she'll accept. Simple as that.

I guess you'll just have to try. The worst that can happen is that she'll tell you to frag off. If she's nice she'll say it nicely, and you may still be in with a shot later.

When I say I've "flirted with" her, I mean more along the lines of "made small talk while going through her line" (and that's only occured a few times). To be sure, I've been "teased" in the past, and would like to think I can tell when I'm on the path to another sexually frustrating friendship. But of course, no man has those skills

She was the sister of a mate's girlfriend. She was at a party, drunk, and some guy was trying to pick her up. My mate asked me to block the other guy, so I stepped in and generally prevented him from getting anywhere. Then she and I went for a walk, just to get her away from the party, get some fresh night air, and before long we were making out...I took her back to her sister's where we, uhh, spent the night. After that we started dating, but she still had a boyfriend...

I was about to say I never dated anybody who was married, but then I remembered...Anyway, I don't think dating a single woman-- whether she has a boyfriend or not-- betrays a lack of scruples. Now if we're talking about a single woman who lives with her boyfriend, I'd put that in the same hands-off category as a married woman.

Karine, do you like my tie?

So you want to improve your french……… :skeptic:

But yes, I like your tie (is this a picture from your marriage ?)… very "chic" (très classe)…

Flirting is definitely an art.Should start subtly and see if you're getting the desired response, and if so bump it up a notch.Personally I only flirt when someone is "special".Otherwise I'm blunt and say I'm interested in bagging you,I don't like games or leading anyone on.For flirting the dance floor is a good place to start. But everyone is an individual and what works for one may not apply to another.

My current interest knows my name! :jump:

I went through her line to cash my check, and she said my name to another girl while she was talking about how I'm always a hassle to deal with (I think she was kidding...he-heh). This after I'd only said it to her a couple of times...though I have cashed my check through her line a few times, so perhaps she has it memorized from that.

This is a step in the right direction :thumb:

Now try using the line from Dodgeball.

Guy: "We should mate."

Girl: "What?"

Guy: "I said, we should date."
