Having another go tomorrow, what a pain in the arse it is.

I can usually give up for 2 months then start again.

Anyone got any good tips? (not filter tips I might add)

Don't give up :D

I told everyone fer ages I was gonna give up after me 30th.

I even believed it masel till I woke up with the worlds worst hangover and what was the first thing I did? Aye, sparked a cig!

To be honest, when we were younger (18/19) a group of my mates (about 7 of us)decided to quit on the spot so everyone threw all their fags in and we bashed them up so they were unsmokeable, I think we lasted about an hour before diving down the garage for more!

The money is the worst thing - I'm on about 20 a day, and it's nearly a fiver a packet. I should give up, but I have no will power!

i didn't even manage to give up when i was pregnant - managed to get down to 3 roll-ups a day (with a filter) from about 15-20 a day. if having a baby isn't enough incentive, f'd if i know what is, so if someone has that special tip, let me know in case i have another...

I gave up for god 6 years ago. Told myself that is was enough. I was a bit ill because of smoking, and that helped me alot.

I still miss it, but haven't smoked at all for 6 years, but it's still a struggle. Everyday.

on average, i smoke 2 cigarettes a day: one on the way to work and one on the way home. if i'm drinking, however, i can easily go through a pack, although i feel like crap the next day and i need a few days off to recover.

Mad memories, I believe my position hasnae changed, Bloomberg's a cunt. It wouldnae be too bad, but when I have a swally, I can easily go through 2 or 3 packs of fags. Just as well it was warm in NY when we were over! Cos at 3 in the morning in the winter.....

Give up, my arse! And that "will start on Monday" thing is BS cause all you do is smoke like 2 packs today till you get really sick of it but the first thing on your mind in the morning is "I want my coffee and a cig". Although I managed to quit once and it lasted 9 months but now I smoke more than ever. Hell, I just love smoking. I get up in the morning just to have a smoke otherwise I wouldn't bother waking up. Oh well if you have that strong will which is the winning factor, good luck then and make sure you don't get really fat. :)

I think I will never give up... said I lighting a cigarette...

I have an uncommun bloody disease. So I said to the doctors : I already do not drink any alcohol (even a pint of beer makes me sick), I do not smoke spliff anymore (even it is was helpful with the pain I feel every single day - should move to Amsterdam !), I take huge quantities of pills that seem to be useless and that give me a sewer-like taste in my mouth. So I told them : Can I do something bad to feel and remain alive ? It is one of the last pleasure I've got !!!

I ment for good, not for God.

God does not exist in my world.

Still smoke-free!

I started smoking at the age of 34-35.How stupid is that?.Can still go a few days without one though. Then smoke a whole pack in few hours.A pack of 10 can last me a couple of days most of the time so i`m not smoking that much.

That sounds very familiar. Although with all that stress lately its been a bit more. Not to worry I'm jogging again.

I can't really offer any tips, seems that what works for one person is useless for another. I used to smoke, not much maybe 5-6 a day. Out having a few pints was a different matter, could easily go through 20-30 in a night. I woke up on New Year's Day 2001, hungover & automatically reached for the cigs. I looked at the packet & thought "sod this, I've had enough of these". Not touched one since. A lad I used to work with spent a fortune on patches & the like and last time I saw him he was smoking as much as ever. Personally speaking, I think it helps if you're a stubborn git. ;) Best of luck with it anyway. :thumb:

smoke free since Feb this year after 17 years smoking (i´m 29 now so go figure!). what did i do? i just stopped, period. i really don´t feel the need anymore really. whenever i experience that anxiety i just take a hell of deep breathe and then i´m ok. besides i spend a lot less money which is always a good excuse. and last month i went to the doctor and realized i was allergic to tobacco (among other things). and i was wondering why i had all those headaches, sneezes and coughs!

You need nicotene replacement therapy.

Forget the patches; they're useless.

I found 4mg Nicorette Spearmint chewing gum to be great; every time you have a gum you feel like you've had a smoke.

The addiction to gum replaces the addiction to ciggies; but the gum is easier to kick and the gum doesn't give you any health problems like strokes, heart attacks, asthma, lung cancer, obstructive airways disease, leg ulcers, peripheral vascular disease and impotence!

I had to 'quit' about 6 times before I quit fully- I still have a gum every now and again... but it's true what they say; 'don't give up giving up'. :thumb:

I gave up two years ago after smoking for 20 years. Just decided one evening that I didn't want to do it anymore. No patches, no gum, just willpower. Hardest bit was going to the pub and reaching into pocket for packet etc. I still get the odd craving these days where I could climb up the wall, and it's the little silly moment, like being on a train platform ten minutes early that reminds me of smoking.

My wife smokes 25 a day, haven't persuaded her to give up yet. I don't actually feel that much healthier, it must be said, but I do have an extra £30 in my pocket each week.

I suppose I am now a smoker who doesn't smoke, rather than an ex-smoker. Can't see a lapse now, I'm too stubborn, but you can never say never.

Nicorette chewing gum is the way to go!

Re; weight gain; you may have to up the physical activity and avoid fat boy food, but generally it's a myth that stopping smoking = weight gain unless you substitute eating for smoking (which can happen).

I've seen quite a few people lose weight through smoking; mainly because of cancer or leg amputations (as a result of peripheral vascular disease).

Replace it with some other addiction such as NOOLing!
