Revival Time!

Every few years, it seems like an artist or group relegated to the dustbin of history suddenly re-emerges and becomes the "in" thing for hipster music fans and novice acolytes as well. Over the past, groups like the Velvet Underground that were cultish in their day are recognized for their brilliance some twenty years after the fact.

So in that spirit, who do you think is about due for a revival? It doesn't have to be someone from too far off, but it can be anyone or group that you think doesn't get the credit they deserve and could do with a nice retrospective appreciation.

My nominee: The Byrds (of course, that could have something to do with the fact that I've been listening to them for the past few days. From the pop days up through country-rock with Gram Parsons, they frigging kick ass)

The Chills and The Feelies are sadly overlooked in my estimation. The Triffids too, though they got a lot of press and attention back in their day, always thought they'd become quite popular.

It's bizarre to hear someone from Oregon talking up local band The Triffids.

Well, the early singles were fairly unremarkable, but I totally got hooked when the Raining Pleasure mini-album came out, and then it was sometimes a challenge to find some of their records back then, but I managed to get almost all of 'em. It's RIP David McComb's solo stuff that I can't find around here.

XTC already got their revival in the form of Dogs Die in Hot Cars. Results are questionable at best.

New Order/JD is currently in the dusk of its revival.

• The Replacements

What i'm afraid of is that the current vein of post punk revival is running thin and that they're going to start tapping into poorer quality lines like Human League, Visage, and (shudder) The Fall. Not to mention the more hideous assgoblins that occupy the dregs of Factory Records' dregs. Do we really need another Crispy Ambulance or The Wake?
