Your first job?

Got the idea for this after seeing the Dave Chappelle skit about the black kid getting his first job at a fast food restaurant, and the reaction of his neighbourhood to it. "I heard Calvin got a paycheck!" "Yeah, let's rob the M*****f*****!!!" (It's a spot-on parody of a McDonald's commercial that ran here in the States).

Mine was working at the local Boys Club on their summer ground crew, travelling around the city to work on the baseball and football fields. Loved the fact that I was outside for most of the summer, just didn't care for a couple of co-workers (lazy slackers who didn't hold their own). Bought a ten-speed bicycle after a month.

Well, my first job was basically at W-D, after fucking up in college and needing cash to pay off my loans. Would've been nice if I'd done something at a fast-food place in high school or something, but I was too lazy

I have moved up in the world, though: I'm no longer a bagboy. I'm a frozen-food/dairy stocker. And I know what I'm doing...sort of :p

when i was 14 i had a summer job working in a shop that sold ice cream, caramel corn, popcorn, sodas, hot dogs, etc. my hometown (estes park, colorado) is a major summer tourist destination as it's the eastern entrance to rocky mountain national park. i had to wade through slow-moving tourists to get to work each morning (or afternoon, depending on my shift). eventually i just pushed the tourists out of the way; most of them were from nebraska and kansas anyway, so i didn't feel guilty.

to this day i get sick at the smell of caramel corn (or karamel korn, as we called it). can't touch the stuff.

When I was 16, I worked as a clerk at a great music store in Denver, Colorado called Twist & Shout the summer before I started college. One of the best stores I've ever been to, if not THE best. It tops anything in NYC, that's for sure.

i used to shop at wax trax. when i lived in capitol hill i walked there several times a week to make purchases.

My first proper job was at a Wine and Spirit Importers in their quality control department.

That means that I am a professionsal wine taster. Although I only did that job for a year cos the wages were terrible. I have a far better palate these days but seeing as your taste buds only really get going in your mid 20s onwards, that's hardly surprising.

When I was 14, I started to work in a food store as a clerk. I worked every weekend, and on holidays for 2 years.

My first proper job after school, was when I was 15. Worked as a computer teccnician. Worked there for 2 years. The 2 other computer companys before I started my own 1993.

Oh, and I got sacked from my clerk job because the caught me stealing cigarettes. The owner was a very good friend of my grandpa, and he was a police officer.

My first job was as a chef in my local restaurant/hotel round the corner from my mum and dads house when i was 15, 8 years later i'm still at it although i've moved on and up in hotels

Wow! That's cool that you lived in Capitol Hill; I know a few people who have lived there over the years. Wax Trax is a great shop/series of shops. I have purchased many a CD and record there in my day. I used to haunt Across the Trax a lot too, for all my bootleg video and band t-shirt needs. Great shop, but I still prefer Twist & Shout. Did you ever shop there?:D

My first proper job (not counting work experience and a one-day thing I did back in 2001) was in the office of a parcel delivery firm. I was constantly overloaded with work that no-one else could be assed doing and the customers who rang up were some of the rudest people I've ever had to deal with. It was a temporary contract and I worked for them twice more because at the time, most of the other jobs I was being offered were too far away for me to get to. Now, though, I wouldn't go back if they were giving me £1 million an hour.

capitol hill is a great place to live--kind of a mini castro; my parents lived in one of the old mansions that had been converted into condos. i think they were the only straight couple on the block--not that they cared, as my dad had a 'straight but not narrow' bumper sticker on his car!

i never went to twist and shout, just the wax trax stores. the summer my parents moved to denver (from ft. collins, where we lived after estes) was the year i started boarding school, so i didn't spend a lot of time in denver--just holidays and summers.

Working at a marine fuel dock, helping boats come in and fuel up. Though not responsible, there were two broken legs (including one totally crushed ankle), one explosion, considerable fuel leakage, and thousands of dollars worth of boat damage on my watch. And I was a good worker.

Worked in a Bycycle shop.Customers sometimes came back and complained when they got a puncture on a new cycle they had bought.Like, DUH!, it`s not our fault you rode over that nail!

i worked as a dishwasher and food deep fryer at some lame restaurant at the age of 15. i was a pretty absent-minded employee, and on one occasion while changing the fryer oil, i forgot to bring out the huge pot to catch all the old oil.

so, we had litres and litres filthy oil all over the kitchen floor; i quit(officially "fired") and a week later the restaurant was closed by health inspectors. :\ohwell:

My first job was working as a summer custodian at an elementary school when I was 14. I figured it could only improve from there, and so far I've been (mostly) right. :)

I sold newspapers and magazines subscriptions to students...

at 16 and through out college I worked for my parents dj company. If a dj needed any kinda song I would do that....makes me wonder why I work in a record store....
