Everydody is told about "Saddam's trial" today. I wonder why they say Saddam instead of Hussein ? The journalists say Saddam as he were our mate ?

Prime Chamberlain said in 1938 "Mr. Hitler, this gentleman..." Did the journalists speak about him as Adolf. This man is known as Hitler, mainly... As well as Stalin insted of Joe or Lenin - Vlad' my mate ? Even people say Président Chirac instead of Jacques...

this is the exact reason. calling saddam hussein 'saddam' became popular during the first gulf war in order to differentiate him from king hussein of jordan. not to mention that names are ordered differently in arab countries than in european ones, and father/son and family/village relationships are easily identifiable by one's name. for example, saddam's full name is saddam hussein abd al-majid al-tikrit (saddam hussein, servant of the glorious tikriti clan) and the current king of jordan's full name is king abdullah II ibn al-hussein (abdullah II, son of hussein). the former king of jordan was king hussein bin talal (hussein, son of talal). so, in fact, they are all 'mr. hussein' in one way or another.

by the way: hussein is the diminutive of hasan, which means handsome. it's a very popular name in the arab world as it's the name of one of muhammad's grandsons.

Who gives a monkeys what they call him? I'd be glad if they called him'Mr assasinated in the hole', or'Mr hanged now', either would do. Mind you, then they'd have to hang Blair & Bush wouldn't they - to be p.c. Now, that would be against all rules; cos us Brits and them Yanks have to stick together right?
