Favorite Republican President

The Republican Party began with the grand and noble goal of abolishing slavery. Then Lincon got shot and the GOP figured it was better to pander to business interests and religious zealots while curbing civil rights and also being hostile to those who rebelled against the rising tides of conformity that each administration seems to inspire.

All in all, a fair bargain with the Devil :p

So which of the felons from this "murderer's row" do you think rates as your favorite? Don't be shy, a good Republican always knows his place. Back and to the left of the Democratic incumbent...oh, that's so the bullet will find its mark

Anyway, Lincoln don't count, and I almost took off TR just because he would qualify as a "liberal" on social issues by today's standards. But he was a card-carrying member, so he's on there. So vote away! (it doesn't really how you vote, Bush II will win anyway )

Teddy Roosevelt was an imperialist pig-dog, but he was also the first conservationist in the oval office, so that kinda balances things out a bit.

All of them when they got voted out or retired, although Lincoln is notable for obvious reasons and Reagen was incredible comedy value.

Eisenhower totally sucked for the mere reason that he let J e Hoover run the FBI as if it was the Gestapo. Much like Lenin letting Stalin amass power.

I voted for Lincoln for having the balls to quash the rebellion and keep the Union together.

It's all about Reagan, baby. One of the biggest morons ever to hold public office, and he was our President for EIGHT YEARS! Sound familiar?

For instance, did anyone know about the time when Reagan gave a speech at some banquet about a guy who won the Medal of Honor? He described, in detail, the story of a guy who bravely kept gunning away from his plane or whatever despite facing grave danger, and ended up dying. He said that he was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor. Well, a college student went to the Library of Congress and looked through the records of each and every winner of the award, only to discover that none of them matched Reagan's description. Then, after he reported this, another helpful soul pointed out that Reagan, in his speech, had almost perfectly described a scene from one of the old movies he had been in.

Reagan had Altzheimers while in office.

Hoover was a great man before he stepped into the White House. Famine relief. Better than FEMA.

The Emancipation Proclamation only freed slaves in the rebel states; it didn't apply to slave states that remained in the Union. And given that Lincoln was not in power in the rebel states, the Emancipation Procalamation had no effect on slaves in those states.

The biggest misconception about Lincoln and the Civil War was that it was fought to free the slaves. Bullshit. It was fought to preserve the Union.

Ford was the only guy who became president because he was considered a nice, honest guy... of course he was never elected

Lincoln wasn't included because I have too much respect for his non-typical concern for the slaves (sure, he went in not caring about slavery, but came out by the end of the war convinced that it had to go). Of course, he did suspend habeas corpus during the war...so maybe he's got more in common with Dubya than I thought
